I would just like to know what you think about this company.#
I originally thought lease purchase but decided against it. I don't want to be stuck in a contract at company I've never worked for. I was offered southeast regional company driver. They are trying to get me to orientation on the 19th#
    Thanks

Fort myers area. I was trying to find a smaller company. No mega. I was otr about 10yrs ago then went to company hauling all over florida. So a lot of places won't hire without the recent otr experience. Found a few smaller carriers still trying to lock one down. Equity called me back first.

Fort Meyers is a little south. They run lot of pepsi, Ikea, and Nestle down there. Ikea is mostly weekend work. Zepherhills, gainesville, opelika, atlanta, some Tx.

They can be good to drive for, but not if you don't like to put some miles down or work weekends. Once you get out of the cycle it takes some work to get back in it. In the SE, they will often give you 3 or 4 loads at once. Some guys like planning them out. Some get glassy eyed and faint like goats. If you run, you can get good miles. If you fart around and are late you will probably starve with 1500- 1800 mi/wk. SE runs a ton of deadhead.

You have to stay on top of your truck. They are all pre-emission glidders with detroit 12.7's. High mileage and those trucks are out of the loop. For some reason FL drivers avoid MI for 5 months a year. They did open a shop in ATL earlier this year. Trailers are mostly 09, 13, and 14's in the SE because they are light weights for pepsi and h2o. Scale every heavy load. Pepsi is notorious for overl grossing trailers and they will charge you for over weights.

What rate is she telling you to start?

Unless I've read your post the wrong way, you have nothing to worry about. I'm reading that you were otr, but for the last 10 years you have been driving a commercial vehicle intrastate with verifiable employment?

It is true that some carriers (really very few by percentage) like to see recent otr experience. But it's really because they want to lessen the odds that you won't call it quits in 3 or 4 months, mainly because you don't know what life style to expect. Some cite that the trucks are longer, but in reality a fraction of a percent of preventable accidents happen while the truck is moving forward, including right hand turns. Can you back a trailer in or can you make a delivery without tearing up the customers property is what matters.

Keep in mind, Equity and a thousand other carriers are begging for drivers.

Have you trolled through the industrial parks in your area to see who's in your neighborhood regularly? I can see it being difficult for you to get home time with Equity?

I'll pm you my cell if you want to chat. If you do choose them, hit her up for a few more cents. She might balk at it, or she might tell you they'll review you in 90. It depends on how many drivers she has coming in. If she does the review route, put it in your reminders. They are not going to track you down and offer it up. If you're still employed, you could push her out citing the need to think it over and weigh your options. Give yourself the strong position for negotiating. It costs 10-15k to bring in a new driver. If you push them out, it costs another 5-7k a week. Every penny should mean 10-15k a year on your w-2.

If you work for equity you should no he will never get home in ft myers!! Maybe a steelcase load to Miami once a month. They have 0 freight down there my friends that still work there in Sebring fight to get home every other weekend.I would seriously look elsewhere.

They told me they run a lot to tampa and Orlando. I have family in both. I talked to them about leaving my car in tampa. And taking home time from there. I have a secure locked lot to park truck
im talking to some other companies still not a sure thing to go anywhere. I like to do some research and get opinions from here and see where it takes me

OK that's not to bad then. The only good thing about them is they will give you a job without the otr experience. I got my first taste of otr from them back in 08 was local like you.
