why greyhound? why?

The company I went with booked me a rental car at hertz so I could drive myself to orientation. Paid for gas too, I got paid the day fur driving there. They had vans for us to use during orientation, drive ourselves like big boys to get some chow haha. Of they book you on greyhound, the lowest form of transportation then will pretty much treat you like the lowest of employees too

 

I know that absolutely no insurance company is going to go for this, but wouldn't it make sense to have a prospective driver meet one of your company trucks at a truck stop and ride into orientation on that truck? The truck is already going to be there, so there is no bus ticket or extra travel expense. The prospect gets a day or two preview of how things work before getting to orientation. If he or she decides this is absolutely not the place to work, then a one-way bus ticket is in that person's future.

Let me state again that I know absolutely no insurance company is going to go for this idea.

 

We were going to rent a car years ago to go from plane to a job meeting and found out they would only take our bank debit card by taking somewhere around$750.00 out for a deposit along with the charges, we did not have a regular credit card to use. The company was going to reimburse the rental after the bills were sent in, so we figured that wouldn't be bad, but to take out a deposit was overboard.

 

Insurance would have to be put on the person, like a rider when you have a relative or spouse ride along, so I doubt if they would do this just for a newbie that isn't even hired yet.

 

I don't think that's not quite what she means.But I see where you're going with this.I do like her idea though and some companies will do this with the condition they missed the bus.Hill Bros have brought drivers in last winter from other drivers because their bus got cancelled.Recruiter was going to try and find me a hill bros driver in my area but there was none so I had to wait till the following week for orientation.

 

why not just take a cab to orientation? If it was me I would have one of those Black Town Cars take me there in style.

 

Greyhound is the worst, whatever you do, do not let them route through Atlanta it is by far the worst terminal in America.

Skip the insurance company, I wouldn't go for it... I don't want Bubba with no teeth picking me up in his dirty smelly truck and have to sit with him for 2 days and smell his odor cause he hasn't showered in a month

Never been on a greyhound never will... I rented a car to both orientations ive gone to, and rented a car home when i quit both companies

 

As in meet the driver and ride jump seat to orientation as a passenger. The rider can't drive without being an employee but could get a good taste of what to expect when bumping docks and swapping trailers at 0300, sleeping next to reefers, getting the Peelot experience, elogs, etc.
