Slim margins! Need to average closer to $2.00/mi in my opinion. I understand that the middle man needs to get paid, but there is not enough crumbs left over for the IC.

I think it depends on how new IC's run.
Some get the truck and take off whenever the mood hits them or they can't manage their money, fuel and expenses.
There's a lot of reasons why some IC's fail.
It's about discipline..if you ran hard as a company driver then why not run hard as a O/O?!
The money is there..YOU have to work to get it is all..
Some think WORK is a bad 4 letter word.
Remember no one is giving anything away for free..go after it like our grandfathers/fathers did.
The American Dream is still alive..people just want to put out their hand and get it.
It doesn't work that way.
Rant over..for now. -
Boethel, knuckledragger, moosc and 2 others Thank this.

I have been following this thread for some time now and really enjoy it.Im a Company driver for another company but Im considering other places for employment. The statement I would like to add to this is,I believe that Lease Puschases can be Successful but Basic business sense needs to be used in this Particular Venture and before anyone signs a Lease in the beginning they need to be told that your 1st year you need to hook up with someone already doing this!!! And 2nd, they should expect to stay out a Minimum of 6 weeks between home time the 1st year so they can get a Grasp on the Ebb and Flow of trucking and the Running lanes.Just my .02

If it's 80% as was posted by Moosc then that's not to bad seeing as how the Industry turnover rate for a company driver is above 125% according to the Industry... so I'd say SFI is a success based on those number's......... but I'm just a truck driver who fits no molds.............
-
I can't see it being 80% honestly . I would venture to say if I had to guess it would be in the 50-60% range with 30-40% of that being first time owner operators who don't know how to run a truck and jumped into a big payment with no research or business Savy .
Being a experienced owner operator I could do the SNI LP deal easily ..
Here is where a new guy ( new to being a OO goes wrong )
1. I CAN DO WHAT I WANT WHEN I WANT AND HOW I WANT I GOT NO BOSS NOW SO ILL DO IT MY WAY ..
2. I THINK ILL GO HOME EVERY WEEKEND AND IF I WANT TO ILL TAKE A WEEK OFF WHEN I WANT TO BECAUSE IM MY OWN BOSS ..
3. MAN THAT 2.75 RATE LOOKS GREAT THINK ILL BOOK IT , opps FORGOT TO LOOK AT THE OUT BOUND FREIGHT AND FORGOT TO SEE IT WAS ONLY A 200 MILE RUN .
The he above are just a few reasons that a FRESH or GREEN HORN operator new to the business would fail . Most never grasp the concept of business and then before they know it they look in the mirror and the settlement says -900 or -800 etc which makes it hard to over come especially if YOU DONT STAY OUT and WORK .. Allot see their first 2-3 settlements ( no truck note ) at 2200 to 2500 think there rich and take a extended time off then they hit the --- range ( negative ) and never pull out .. That's where the failure is ..
You can be successful if you treat it like a business and not like your 16 and got anmansopated and run wild . -
If being in business were easy , People would stand in line for it like the NEED LINE cause it would be easy money . Folks BUSINESS is not EASY and taking the time to do research or find a good mentor is one of the most valuable lessons one can get or take .
As a earlier poster said ..THE AMERICAN DREAM is still Avaliable .
THE AMERICAN DREAM IS STILL LIVE AND KICKING ..
But as anything worth having it takes WORK & DEDICATION & DETERMINATION and THE WILL TO SUCCEED .
This is is not a get rich quick , multi level
marketing venture or a Poinsy Scheme .EggoTrucker, Time4Change and scythe08 Thank this. -
Looking @ a few options for leaving out tomorrow or Tuesday , waiting on a load to confirm to see which direction I'll go . Looks like my first load will be IL or IA . Called customer service should confirm soon .
-
I had the Pleasure of meeting TraderPat yesterday at the French Camp OC and we talked abit about Schneiders I/C program and He even showed the load boards. The more I see it, the more I'm getting interested in it. I paid off my car and I only have about a grand in debt, and then I'm debt free. Homeless, but debt free. lol
Jar-Head Thanks this. -
My philosophy is if being in business was easy .. Everyone would do it .
