Triad - you won't believe it, but I was hit on the interstate in my 4 wheeler today. I was in the HOV lane and the guy that hit me had no idea what happened or how he got in my lane. I'm guessing he was using an electronic device as well. My kid saw him coming at the last moment, as she was in the backseat and he was slightly set back from my position. The impact wasn't so bad, although it did scrub the entire side of my vehicle . He hit my front wheel pretty hard, and it sure isn't like it appears in the movies. It was all I could do to control the fishtailing and keep it from rolling.
I'm going to tell the other insurance company that I'm getting cell phone records - we'll see how nervous they get... The good news for me was the guy admitted to the cop that he came into my lane.
Hopefully I'm adding to your thread - no intention of hijacking.
I was hit yesterday by a distracted, probably texting driver.

Don't feel bad over it, stuff happens. The same thing happened to me a few years ago, with the exception that my other party wasn't distracted, they were flat out playing in the car and weaving in and out of traffic, playing chicken with other motorists. They misjudged and hit my truck. They were cited and I was not, and even though it was just city kitties that responded, it is on my record.
Sucks, but it is what it is. Hopefully your employer is as understanding as mine were. -
Just goes to show how endemic the whole thing is. It's terrible, but seems like it's just becoming one of those things we all have to watch out for, even though it's the other person who shouldn't be distracted. I can just imagine some day that cops, insurance adjusters, lawyers, etc. will start asking drivers "Well didn't you notice that he seemed distracted before he hit you?" I hate it. It's killing people and the people who do it just think they're special until they wind up becoming a statistic.
Dart has been aces over the whole thing. Right after the accident when the dust settled and I called them up, they listened to my side of the story, believed what I said and left me to handle business on my end. I did everything I had to do, sent them the accident report and three witness statements and I haven't heard a word about it since my dispatcher asked me when I'd be ready to go back to work. Just finished my first night back. I don't feel bad about it at all. Turns out my sister actually knows a friend of the girl and so the girl got to see pics of the truck and her car and whatnot. She knows it was her fault, she knows she screwed up, and there's no ill will harbored between any of us. It sucks, but it is what it is. Like I said, I'm not going to get greedy and I don't want to try to make an example of anyone, but I'll get what I think is fair when it's time to deal with the insurance people, whether I have to file the claim through mine or we can get to hers.Rocks, Big Don, bergy and 1 other person Thank this.
