I would've moved the trailer, it's no skin off my nose and for a few extra bucks from the dispatcher, I would've even cranked the landing gear all the way to the ground. [emoji14]
Ok, this is how I would've done it:
The guard says, I have to move the trailer I dropped.
I'd ask, "Isn't that what you got yard dogs for?"
Guard: "Yeah, but they want you to move it." Looking ahead, I can see a turn around.
Me: "Ok, can I go out and turn right around?"
Here the guard can say one of two things. "Yeah, sure" to which I turn around or "No, you can't" which means I'll have to back up because I don't do tight turn arounds (you won't see any bent wind fairings on my rig). So I'd tell the guard, "I'm gonna have to back it up, make sure it is clear for me to do so." Now I made my problem, his problem. It's funny how life is like that. [emoji48]
From there I spot the trailer and make $20 just because they made it inconvenient for me. [emoji14]
I suppose one could play the "we're not allowed to move equipment we're not assigned to" argument. "Sorry, I am no longer assigned to that equipment. We're not allowed to move it" and give that hands up in the air gesture. I wonder how that'd work... (it's a fake policy, but the guard doesn't know it).
so who has the problem here?

I could if I was not on elogs on that company I only got at that point 15 or so minutes on my clock at the time. I didn't care for my company at the time I was a rookie getting paid .29c a mile, as soon as I got another job opportunity I left.

As a dispatcher I always call an hour before my driver gets there so they can be prepared to unload him. The driver can yell as much as he wants at the receiver, but he better not be yelling at me. Worst case, he gets banned from the receiver.
If the receiver cant unload him for the time asked i'll tell the driver to do another custumer before or take a coffee brake. Our drivers are all hourly paid so it doesnt bother them. -
It's not worth the hassle. If some gets hostile with me, I can go hide in my truck and let the company straighten it out. If that doesn't work, check my ruffles and find someone higher up and use kind words.

Hi skro, not everyone has the luxury of an understanding dispatcher, and in all fairness to the OP, this electronic log crap could have easily prevented them from moving the wagon, and the guard or company doesn't realize that. It's all these little things that make it so much worse for drivers now. Terrible.

I guess you are right! Just the other day in our yard a company sent a driver to wake someone else on his 10 hour break.
"semi" retired Thanks this. -
Ps: not one of our driver. We are renting parking spots in our yard.
