Many years ago I used to run San Antonio - El Paso and back. Most think that is a BORING TERRIBLE drive. But I prefer that drive over say across MO I-44 or I-70 ... or I-20 LA/MS/AL/GA. I hate those drives with a passion. So if you like the particular drive and it "goes by fast" for you, run it as long as it lasts and you can stand it. But if you find the run boring and tedious now, it will only get worse.
But eventually you'll want a temporary break even if for only a week, and I hope that will be an option for you.

For several years I had a dedicated run from Balt to N Jersy every day,,speed limit then was 55,,,hated it,I would come home at night sometimes and would want to kick my 4 wheeler in the driveway,,I made some #### good bucks,,ran 100,000 miles a year ,,truck make $150K/yr and after all expenses running with vey good equipment w/payments I cleared about $75k profit,,stuck with it until my customer got new traffic manager and he decided that he would impress his boss and cut the rate,,I left and the other 3 trucks stuck their tail between their legs and took a 20% cut,,couple years later when fuel and tolls went up they could not get a rate increase,Good hauls and routes don't last forever but take advantage of a sure thing while it last
I see you only been on the run for a few months,,get some experience and be carefull of any move,,you it always seems that the grass is greener on the other side of the fence, you always here of the good paying loads but not the cheap ones,, Just like fuel mileage you hear about the guy that brags about his 7mpg but that's only with lite loads and with a tailwind,,
Never hurts to keep you eyes and ears open looking for something better or different,,just be carefull and don't jump ship to fast,,
Hang in there get more experience I would say as long as the company is fair,,has decent equipment and decent pay. -
I have run nothing but dedicated out and back runs for over a year. There are several and dispatch rotates me around on them. That breaks up the monotony. Mountains one week, Gulf coast the nest. Seems like I get more mountains in the winter and Gulf coast in the summer though. When I ran longer OTR system loads with this company I would run a few of these after long trips for the home time. I think they give the better weather to those guys for the break. Its a sweet deal so no complaints.
These are the main ones. They are all 1500-1700 miles round trip. Generally run 2 one week and 1 the next for about 62K/year and 4-5 days off every 2 weeks. These are all either live load/unload on one end but drop and hook on the other end. That can create some demurage that we are paid hourly for. Customer does everything. I haven't touched a hose in over a year.
1. NC to N Chicago and back
2. NC to Holland Mi and bank
3. NC to Iowa City and back
4. NC to Plaquemine La and back
There are a couple of shorter ones that they will add in occasionally on the 1 load weeks.Boy Howdey and Chinatown Thank this. -
lots of good and bad as with any job. I am just getting a little burned out from it.
Chinatown Thanks this. -
Get a good tanker job like "wsyrob" has. Tanker work is easy money. I was OTR hazmat/tanker and it was the best trucking I ever did. I loved those TN to West Coast/Pacific Northwest loads. Get there and maybe an hour to unload, then deadhead back to TN and it paid the same loaded or empty.Boy Howdey and the40man Thank this.
