Well I called this morning and, I forget the name of the pleasant lady I spoke with, but she said that Rachel is reviewing the application and to give a call tomorrow. She gave me the details on training with Millis, and also said I live in a good area. From reading posts of Millis drivers I've gathered you guys haul for the brewery local to me, and also Menards. I'm even more hopeful after hearing this today! I can't wait to quit my job building trusses, my hands are so tore up I can barely grip anything!

Question on CDL Permit....I plan on taking all the endorsements tests when I go in to take the general knowledge ( except for passenger and bus) but confused about when to take the Hazardous Materials test. Can you take it at the same time as the others or do you have to wait until you get your actual CDL because of all the TSA and FBI background checks and fingerprinting?

 

I took the general, air and combo to get my permit, went back a few days later took the hazmat, tanker, double - triple. The DMV recorded the passing of the hazmat, but wont issue the endorsement on the permit/license for it until the background check comes back. This was in Va, so check with your local dmv if they will let you take the exams so you can get them out of the way.

 

Well, it did not pan out. Me and my girlfriend run an adult family home (take care of elderly persons) which is titled solely in her name, so when they requested proof of self employment all I could provide was certificates and check stubs in her name, which they would not except. Needless to say I am bummed!! But I must press on, did you guys have any close seconds (or even far) for if you hadn't been accepted to Millis? Thanks.

 

Just wondering...when your with a trainer for 5-7 weeks, is there any hometime? And when you first start your schooling they make you choose your pay I hear? What's the best to pick?

 

This is what I believe to be the case:

1) You cannot take the hazmat test until you have a full CDL license.
2) With everything involved with getting a hazmat endorsement there is no point in doing it unless and until you have a hazmat job lined up.
