I just came back from shop.. CAT will replace liners 2 and 3... 1and 4 look like they will soon need replacing and 5 an 6 look ok. So i have decided to do all 6, have everything machined properly and be done with it. My warranty rep tells me he is working on it and might get all liners in warranty. All labour for extra is already taken care of, i will know this afternoon what my Rep can get in the claim through loop holes. Worst case scenario it cost me $2000 to do all 6. Best case scenario ??? Will find out more later. As for improper rebuild last time i didnt own the truck and it was done a KW dealer in Northern Ontario so CAT says not there problem and it would be a legal nightmare so i will do what has to be done this time properly. My warranty will still cover most of this but had it been done proper the 1st time around i would not even be in this predictament

At least you got it as cheap as you did on the worst case base. I got a truck that I wish they'd let me pay four times that and actually have it fixed right lol.

Ask your big Cat rep how many times he wants to chase your engine around at different shops paying the original warranty claim. If the original KW dealer was a Cat TEPS dealer, you can bet they are, then it's Cat's problem just the same. TEPS dealers have to meet Cat's criteria or they aren't allowed to do warranty work. Make them give you the liner protrusion specs on your engine as it was when they originally looked at it. They know what will last and what want. It's a money game, and if you can present an argument that will show a possible bigger money loss in the future to them, they'll cut their losses and help you out. The best way to work their system, is to get the tech doing your work on your side. A little praise and a Ben Franklin will work wonders. Off the radar screen, of course.

Problem is I did not own the truck when bad rebuild was done, all we know was some things were not done that should have been, its very possible original owner decided not to take extra steps to save money. I have seen many who cut corners to save a buck, I could have done the same this time around and just replaced #2 and #3 which are covered, but would end up back in shop in 6 months with 1-4 or 5 do be done under warranty again, or better yet have those parts last till 1 month after my warranty and pay the full bill, yes they know what will last, they also know when a warranty ends and if they think it will last till past the warranty they wont fix it. i have 18 months left to be exact and since motor is completely apart i took decision to fix it right... hoping they do it right, All 6 holes will be equal.
