I understand why EducatedDriver took the job. My husband has been in Midland/Odessa for the last couple of days and has submitted several applications. You would almost assume from reading a lot of the post that it is super easy to get a job with no experience if you apply in person. We are not finding that to be the case. Maybe its the wrong time of the year I don't know. Hopefully he will have better luck next week. I think he has been to every company that was suggested on the threads. I guess my expectations were a little unrealistic.
So here's what happened to me on Thursday........

That will link you to a listing on Craig's List for Odessa and then you can look at the other postings on there. I know in looking through these for us, I have ran across some that say they will train or CDL Graduates welcome. I can't remember which company that takes CDL graduates, but look through those, if you haven't already. Maybe there will be something you haven't seen? Good luck!mrstruckerswife Thanks this. -
Quick update: so I finally talked to a Sanjel recruiter today (not the one who got me all hot and bothered for nothing). Only took 3 phone calls, turns out they are looking for guys with at least 3 years exp, would have been nice to know BEFORE I went to the interview, was also never mentioned in the ad. Maybe I should have brought up all the bank I made and highly valuable experience I got when I was flipping burgers. At age 15. Yeah that would have put me over the top for sure.
jarhead, sherryb, big duker, unloader, you along with some other people who have pm'ed me CLEARLY get it. It appears that there are also some children in the room so let me speak to them:
First of all I'm not your son and judging by some of your posts on other threads I'd be completely ashamed if I was. Calling someone silly for taking a job with a great company, what are you 4? wtf is a halliburton 'martyr'? Mad because you never got hired on huh? You know how there's always that guy? Yeah it's you, now let the adults talk junior.
Would love to work for you for $18-25 an hour. To start. First, go back and read my previous posts about my 'experience', then pm me with a job offer. No joke, you know I have a cdl right? Oh, and anyone else who has jobs for guys like me pm me too. Did I mention I have a cdl?
Found him! This is the guy who makes whiny youtube videos about trucking, and then keeps on trucking anyway. Put down the bong man, drug test next week.
Updates to follow... -
We get what you're saying, however, 100+ Hrs/wk is ridiculous even if it was just lookin at a computer screen all day.
Do YOUR thing, though.Wild Murphy Thanks this. -
You really need to drive 40 to 80 miles S and SW of you sometime.

What are they hauling?

Thanks for the Thread and Congrats!! Hopefully you have enough time to keep it updated.
Exactly what I'm thinking about doing once I finish CDL school. I'm not sure why people are knocking the 13/hr. It's common knowledge that this is what Hali pays for new people coming in. If you can stick it out its pretty easy to move up in the company since so many people jump ship after a year. -
100+ hours a week is ridiculous for you. It is not for me and plenty of others.Driver5 and security58 Thank this.

I did read this thread from the start. That's exactly why I thought $13 per hour was low for you!
If you never set foot inside any kind of truck before this job, I still think the rate was low simply because of how and where this particular job is carried out!
I have trained folks from new, (not like you) I mean brand new, just went to school to become a truck driver type new! There is a big difference here is you know what you are doing and you also have enough experience to know driving a truck is what you want to do as a career. There are a lot of folks that get their CDL and then realise they don't like it and quit. It really doesn't matter wheather your pulling a dump trailer, flatbed or tanker, they all have specific operating tasks different from each other but the job is fundamentally the same.
Feel free to pm me anytime if things don't work out where you are.
