I was talking to a buddy of mine the other day that is a fellow trucker to we started talking about Curtained flat bed's my buddy said that is the way to go. I have seen the curtain flat beds some of them look really nice and some of them look like a nightmare to unload. I have seen the flat bed trailers that have a roof like a van trailer were they load from the sides and I have seen different one what I am getting at what are the pro's and con's of some of these different type of flat bed trailers.

I love my Roll Tite tarping system! I would never go back to throwing tarps again! The only downside is you can't run with it open to haul a oversize load. Yes I know tarp stop advertises a kit you can run open but if you do it too often you will be buying a new tarp pretty quickly and at $5000 for a tarp, not really a good idea.

    3 remarks:

1°there are curtain systems that can open the roof so crane loads are possible

2°there are curtain that can be build so you can run oversize with the curtain closed.

3° for running a rolling tarps system open,i would make a few small adjustments that would keep your tarp safe and run it open.

Beats tarping, In Europe they have curtain side flats with reefer units,,they haul flat freight outbound and return with citrus and other refrigerated freight that needs to only be cooled to 40 degrees of so,, Curtain side trailers are hard to find used and cost more .

how often is too often?im thinking about buying a conestoga but not being able to haul oversize is a deal breaker for me.after having to tarp a load of machinery in a 100 degrees weather the idea of never tarping again keeps flirting with my mind

If you make the right changes you can bring back the wear off running it open to zero.
    Think about.
You have a high headboard with a rolling tarp..........right?
You put a small box in the middle at the top.
In it there's a small tarp ,tailormade to just cover the rolling tarp when is completely open.
When you have run with open tarp, you just cover it.
The wind has no way to get at your rolling tarp so there is no movement,no wear.
