I'm going to have to say the same thing everyone else has said. Learn the business first, take a year to run the road. The two companies, Abilene and Cargo Transporters are both very good to start out with. First hand experience trumps what someone says in my book.

As far as hijacking the thread, it's all good, if we can offer some advice to help him make a decision, then it's worth it. In fact, I thought this was pretty good.

I don't need their finance dept and yes it has been 12 yrs or more since I drove last but I have this thing called loyalty and I hate coming to Abilene and then leaving 6 or 9 months later. I understamd drivers jump companies often but I have alwqys tried to stick it out until the bloody end or until I got screwed so good that I had no choice. You do have to have six months before they will consider leasing a truck to you but I am not necessarily looking for a lease I may just buy outright. I am looking for a nrgative with their program that tells me I should just stay a comoany driver for the next five or six years until I retire again

But thank you all for your advice. I do appreciate it

i drove for a long time then didn't for 20 years
owned my own business for 35 years
and struggled learning all the changes with a lease
glad to be a company driver now
but you seem to have your mind made up
good luckJohnBoy and The Challenger Thank this. -
Did not know that you used to drive a truck since you have "no" under your avatar.

I am not currently a trucker so i did not want to claim to be one. I drove briefly 12 yrs ago and then again more frequently 30+ yrs ago....hell I was driving a tractor pulling cypress logs or a trailer full of soy beans for my cousins when I was 18. In my part of Louisiana back then no body bothered you and if they did they only did it once....lol But that has been many many years and I know I am coming in like a complete rookie which is the way I want it. I am to #### old to think I know enough to keep me out of trouble. Thanks again for all the answers and opinions guys.Last edited: Aug 28, 2014

Took a 2 stopper down to St Pete and Sarasota. Left yesterday from the yard at 11am, went to Hampton for a drop and hook and am now empty. A nice 1000 mile overnight run. Now I'm waiting for the load planner to get over his surprise that I'm empty down here so I can turn around and get back for the morning to end this pay period real good with 5 days off.

Now that I overcame the shock and awe, I have to brag about what happened this morning. My all time favorite DM emailed me at 11am this morning while I was pulling out of my last drop and wanted to know if I wanted to go to Tracy California after I get back to richmond tomorrow. After 18 months here at Abilene, this is the first time I've ever been preplanned. I didn't know it ever happened here. 5 minutes after I told him sure it was sitting on my Qualcomm. Unreal, I'm still a little speechless.
Mr klean2k12, Time4Change and DevilDog79 Thank this.
