Ya, just want to reiterate, Central is just my personal recommendation and because we have personally driven for them and know their operation. There are thousands of good companies out there and like stated above, you need to find a company that is going to best suit you guys and your personal needs. Don't just pick a company because someone had a good or bad experience with them.

I would also suggest (and this is my personal opinion) to find a company that is going to be large enough to keep you busy yet small enough to still treat you like a human being. Your chances of success will be much greater if you are able to build a good bond with your dispatcher. Your dispatcher is going to be the one responsible for making you money. You also don't want to small of a company either. As a team you really want the option of "drop and hook". This will allow you to optimize your miles. A small company is not going to have the available equipment to do so.

With all that being said there are also many different avenues of the trucking industry in which you can drive for. Dryvan, Reefer, Flatbed, Tanker, Heavy Haul, Bed bugging (moving companies), Electronic/Trade Shows and Concert/Events, Animals such as horses, livestock and exotic, Unique carriers such as Nascar, CBS Sports etc... Hot Shot or Expedite, Air Freight Companies etc.. The list is long. Just be sure to take the time and do your homework and choose an avenue in which interests you and suits your needs the best. Of course some of the more unique driving jobs are going to pay more but regular freight and such will be pretty much standard. Don't just choose a company because they boast the most pay per mile. A lot of times this is just a recruiting ploy. A company may offer to pay you $1.00 a mile but if you aren't running any miles or they don't have the freight then you are going to make a dime! You also may want to look into the option of being able to train together. A lot of companies out there will have you train separately and if this is going to be an issue you may want to be clear about it up front. Also rider policies and pet policies. All the carriers out there have their own requirements and policies that you need to make sure, once again, match your needs.

If you have any questions feel free to "pm" me if you would like. My wife and I team drove for many years both company and owner operator and I will do my best to share my mistakes with you guys.

    Good luck....

My husband and I team drove for four years. We came off the road in 2010 to do local work due to my parents health issues. They are better now and we are looking back into getting into the truck again. This time however, we are hitting the oilfields! As was mentioned before, we not only love each other, we actually like each other! It takes a special relationship to be with someone 24/7 and not want to kill them! :) Luckily, we have that relationship, and it looks like the others on here have that kind of relationship also. We have even worked for the same company these past four years. It will take some getting used to if we end up with different companies working the oilfields. I am hoping we can get on together some where. Of course, we don't have to work "together". We can go different directions at the beginning of the day, but it is nice working for the same company when you can talk shop and know what each other is talking about!
