hey all. im currently at JB Hunt doing the target dedicated account. SAIA and ABF both interviewed me, SAIA today, ABF yesterday. my question is, if ABF and or SAIA give me job offers, what should i do?
im in a suburb about 30 minutes from Saias milwaukee terminal, and ABFs west allis terminal, and i work out of the target dc in oconomowoc, which is maybe 20 or so minutes away
ABF interviewed me for P&D, and Saia for linehaul. with JB i get 40cpm, saia will be 48, and ABF will be about 23 per hour with 40-50 hours a week and with overtime after 40 hours a week or 8 hours a day. insurance for JB will be almost 200 a month just for me, ABF itll be free, and me+spousey at saia will be about 30 per week
JBHunt Saia or ABF?

AS far as pay and benefits, ABF is by far the winner; however, ABF is union so as far as stability it can be a little shaky at times. I would still go with ABF, great company!
semi retired semi driver and Marky84 Thank this. -

ABF has a pension fund and they pay for health insurance, no brainer there

ya i get that, but Saia will probably pay more. right?
-
I could be wrong but I am pretty sure as far as pay goes by mile and hour ABF is more... Add on top of that the medical insurance is company paid and your pension... -
but i could be earning between 1100-1400 gross just to start at 48cpm. and id get paid for drop and hook etc. in 18 months id be at 56 or 58cpm and grossing between 1400-1700 per week. depending on various things of course.
anyone driven for Saia and ABF? -
Yes, doing linehaul Saia will pay more. Unless you can do linehaul at ABF which pays better. You can make switch at either company once you get on down the road. But P&D is day shift m-f no weekends where linehaul is nights maybe weekends off or not. No schedule. Depends on the terminal your at. Terminal to terminal things change. You might want to ask Saia what's their schedule or is it extraboard(no schedule)P&D is harder physically, pallet jacking or hand delivery, where Linehaul is drop and hook. You got to ask yourself on the linehaul gig if running nights will effect your lifestyle at home, wife, kids etc. Wife might be cool at first they hate your job and cause a divorce. Linehaul is where the big money is at though. If you need the money right away and you and your family can handle nights, Saia not a bad gig.

Your going to be new to the company so I dont know how realistic the 1100-1400 is going to be starting out...

I think at ABF you will have to wait 2 years for vacation time.
Radman Thanks this.
