    Cybergal,
Your comment says Sni requirements, in part, r min age 21 and regular drivers lic. I went to the Sni websit and they say they want a person to have a permit to go go their Academy. Have things changed at Sni or have they made the change just for this 1 day. I'm asking because I want to get into driv'n, want to go with Sni, then found out they want u to have permit. Then got the book from the dmv, and darn, it looks like u need a class to learn the book. U got any helpful info. Thank you.

to apply you only need a drivers liscense but to go to school you need your class a cdl permit which to get is take the written tests for gen knowlage combination vehicles and airbrakes to drive a semi with a liscensed driver you need the permit its just like the normal drivers liscense and its not that hard read the book a couple of times and you will be able to pass only focus on the sections you need, tanker hazmat doubles and buss you dont need

    Hello mannmk7,
I didn't find the permit tests too difficult. Just study the approriate sections of the manual. I don't know about your state, but in Indiana, taking the tests is free. You can take them as man times as you need to pass them. You have to wait a day before retesting, but there is no limit on how many times you can test.
Again, your state may be different, but here you also need a DOT physical before you can get the permit. So you may want to check out the requirements with your state BMV before going much further.

Thanks for the info this helps break it down. It's now going to be easier to deal with.

I just checked my AZ dmv cdl manual. The Arizona manual's largest section is PART 1 which is the general knowlege, a fairly large part of the book, almost 1/2. Part 2 is 6 sections, 1 is AIR BRAKES, and 1 is COMBINATION VEHICALS.

    Thanks a lot.

Wow, Indiana treats it's citizens wright. Free test as many times as you need. Now thats the way it should be, IT HELPS GET PEOPLE TO WORK.
Instead many, many states, like AZ, got those USER FEE'S(another word for taxes paid by the working class). It costs $25.00 to apply. The book is not clear on if the application and the test are all in one.
Anyway, gotta thank you for helping out. THANKS ALOT.

Whoaaaaaa. I guess I better expound a bit.
The tests are free. The permit itself is $16.00 And the actual license is, I believe, $95 on top of that.
    Sorry I mislead you.

U were very helpful. AZ u have to get the medical first,$$$$$, then u pay the application Fee, $25.00, then u take the test, 50 questions, U can take the test 5 times. Get this the test may have anything in the whole book on the test, even bus info, for the permit. So just studying the general, air brakes, and combation is out. Oh well.

    Thanks again.

Ouch! I feel for you. If the test is over anything and everything in the book, do you still have to take seperate tests for the endorsements? I know here, there is a seperate test for doubles/triples, bulk/tanker, hazmat and busses.
I took all of them except bus all in one morning. Passed them all and THEN found out I needed the physical to get the permit. Needless to say, the old BP shot up a bit at that point :)

Yes... in AZ endorsements are seperate tests but may be taken at the same time. Hope this helps.
