Why are people on here with no cdl or driving experience ever giving advice out?

That Subway sandwich maker isn't pulling a 40 ton truck at highway speeds with a potential of wiping out a whole family on summer vacation. I'm sorry they only make $8.50 and hour but their pay is commensurate with what they do. I've been hauling hazmat in the most congested traffic system is the US for over 15 years without any incident and I expect to be compensated properly for my skilzz and experience. I'm not a noob therefore I will not be thankful just to get paid.

The real crime is that if you add up all the actual (real) time that a mega OTR driver is on duty on a typical day and you'll see that the hourly rate is way less than $8.50 an hour.

if you also ADD up that me as an OTR driver doesn't need a car and house payment, that saves an extra $10-15k a year.

The bottom line is we are paid what we are because we accept it.
If ALL the truck drivers would QUIT USA truck, Werner, Swift, CR England, TranScam etc tomorrow and joined companies that ONLY pay a lot higher.. it would force up rates in order to remain competitive in the driver market or else they would go out of business.
You can't have a trucking company with no drivers lol.

    Should we be paid more?
    Yes.
In less than a year of experience I went from .26CPM to .43CPM
If I can do it anybody can
Nobody has to accept being paid garbage and being bent over, that's a choice.

In case you're wondering why I worked for .26CPM, nobody else would hire me in the beginning.. so I got a few months experience and ran to the hills.

My point was we should attempt to be more grateful, soo many truck drivers I see are sad and complaining all the time. Heck I was sad when I was making .26CPM lol but was grateful for the opportunity to gain experience in order to be able GTFO of there.
Do we deserve to be paid more? I'm not debating that fact.

My father drives for Schneider. He's been there now eighteen years or something like that. He joined right out of the military. He said sorta the same thing, come talk to me after your first year. I chose not to go with Schneider because i just do not like them. He enjoys it there but says they have changed alot over the years.

I know I am new and I came into this with a very open mind. I have no illusions of this being anything more than a job that could pay well with time and experience. I am not in a position to give advice to anyone because I don't know enough but I can chime in on some things that call for common sense.

I have a thick skin and can take alot of stuff and at the end of the day if it doesn't affect my paycheck in a negative fashion, it's not worth worrying about. With all the crap that i will have to worry about and deal with, i don't need to worry about things that are not worth dealing with.

I have been out this summer with my dad and it was a good eye opening experience. I cannot say it was all fun because i had to be in a truck with my own father and from that i already learned my first lesson, which is teaming is not my thing and I was just a guest on the truck.

Look to close this out. I think everyone has something of value to say, but there has to be a limit on what is okay to say. I think the problem with some is that they fail to realize that so many others have been through the same things so at some point, its just a broken record being run.

I think so. And it seems it's usually important stuff they forgot.

You would ban him for asking a legitimate question? It certainly isn't the dumbest question ever asked on this forum and it wasn't an inflammatory statement such as "All truck drivers from NYC are kid touchers" so why would you ban him if you could? He asked a legitimate question and if you feel it is ban worthy then click the little triangle on his original post and report it.

I see your point. Every time I post something here I feel a little guilty about it, so I have tried to make it real clear that I got the CDL, went through truck driving school, was with the trainer for two months and then quit. I try not to give out advice on companies other than to say Werner was OK by me, they were not the reason I quit, it had more to do with just trucking in general. I try to provide some kind of balance to the people who really love the job without being too negative myself --- and I try not to discourage people, just relate my experience. But sometimes I get bored and I feel with maybe 60 years of life experience that maybe I have something worthwhile to say. I hope I am not one of those people you are referring to but I could understand it if I was. For awhile I participated on the Airliners.net site, but eventually I figured out I was not a pilot, mechanic, or a flight attendant, so my comments as a frequent flyer did not really count for much there. So I guess the bottom line for me is I get bored posting to facebook.
