True the 12 hour days account for the 3 weeks of training. I kinda like the idea of finishing up the class sooner, and getting back to work sooner..although when I interview each of the 3 or more school and instructors, I may choose the 6 week option as my best choice.....pros and cons in both class schedules.... they are all about the same price, and as far as financing, I will self finance it, as it seems that the better companies start tuition reimbursement within a few months after a new driver starts driving solo....

If you're looking for skid pad training u can try Crowder College in Neosho mo. They also have an option where u can do classroom training at home for 2 weeks and then attend their school for the driving part the last 3 weeks. They have dorms where u can stay too. Their course is around 3300 bucks.

    Skid pad training is worthless.

If a company wants you to have it, they will provide you with it. The sole purpose of a CDL school is just that, get you a CDL and get you the training to get a job. Everything else is provided by the carrier that hires you.

I agree that during driving school skid pad training is not of much use.
I was sent to skid pad training after I was employed by the last trucking company I worked for.
It was a great experience, lots of practice dealing with a trailer that wants to go faster than the tractor, jumping on and off of curbs and sidewalks, quickly maneuvering around objects in the roadway.
It was also a lot of fun!!!!

Most companies use simulators these days for that. Not video game simulators, but $150,000.00 simulators that allow them to put you in every possible bad scenario to practice how to deal with it. Heck, Schneider has over 40 of them around the country for training and they actually work fantastic.

Have you decided where you are going?

Have not made a a final decision on when school to attend just yet. I am also looking at which companies I would want to drive for.
Each of the driving schools here in the KC area have pros and cons, 3 week, 5 week, and 6 week programs, community college or for profit schools.
The cost of training in dollars are about equal across the KC area schools......I plan to attend one of these schools after the holidays, after the first of the year, unless I get real lucky and can do it earlier...
