You do what you can do. The usual deal with OTR outfits that lease trucks is to tell drivers to only buy enough fuel to make a run and avoid buying fuel just before the cutoff date for turning in trips. That maximizes short-term cash flow at the expense of profit in the long run. Its how shyster lease-purchase deals convince drivers they're making some money.

Just an observation... If he is using a fuel card, the transaction fees are $1.25 or $1.50 a swipe. If you are fueling every trip, the fees will add up in the long run.
BigBadBill and double yellow Thank this. -
A couple possibilities.
1 he always fuels at the same stop because his company gets a great discount.
2. He worries about fuel being stolen where he parks, since he runs out and back.
3. It's a cash flow trick perpetuated by his carrier.
4. His tanks aren't big enough to go out and back twice and have a sufficient reserve.double yellow Thanks this. -
that theory only plays out if every day plays out the same. and we all know that don't happen.
rain, snow, wind, load weight, and quality of fuel, which never seems to be the same from tank to tank at the same filling station. -
Yeah, and that calculation assumes there is always a 700lb difference when in reality there would only be that difference every other day.
-
there is no reality. it doesn't exist in a factor of variables.
