Wow I've read the posts a couple of times. I'll see if I've got it figured out but it'd be best if txBD just posted again. He's got 12 years experience doing mostly local stuff and hasn't driven in a couple of years. The question to me is does he want OTR or would he rather stay local. He mentioned a couple of mega carriers to possibly hook up with for refresher training. Chinatown mentioned several that do refresher training and some aren't that great. Vic responded there's better options and try to stay local and that would be my thought as well. And the wizzing match began.
txbigdaddy post again and clarify what you're looking for, OTR or local if you can get it. in reading your post it does seem like you're not to eager to go OTR as you mentioned you haven't been out longer than a couple of days. You also act like you're not fond of snow and mountains. I'm going by your user name but if you're in TX there should be several places that you could check with that would be local or out a overnight and back. I would think with your experience you could call some of those places and if they need drivers they may be happy to put you with someone for a few days to get you into the swing of things. There are many options other than the run of the mill mega carriers out there.
I do not drive but am just considering options right now but I side with Vic on this. I also have done a lot of reading and research and I don't see myself going to a mega carrier for training if that day comes. If I had 12 years of experience and hadn't driven in the last 2 years I'd be looking at the small carriers and more local jobs first. That experience isn't that long ago. With the driver job market I'd think you'd be very employable with some better outfits.
There is one question though. Do you have a clean record and job history? That makes a difference from what I've seen on here. There is a ton of information on here and very knowledgeable people, but you also have to provide some information to get it.

wow ask a question and got plenty of advice or" something" LOL. ill probably go with Roehl Transportation the have a Texas regional fleet that looks pretty good for my area" Southeast Texas"
and Goldenfan no I really didn't wont to go OTR at this time, still got a few years to wait for that, kiddo still at home, thanks, and to Cody1984 went to the DPS office and paid them $11.00 to keep my CDL without my medical card, Roehl seems like there gonna give me a chance so i give them a shot, cant hurt, thanks to everyone who replied. -
If I can ask what did you haul before where you were home everyday and could you get back into that. SE Texas is a very populated area there may be more local opportunities there for you if you kick over enough rocks. Roehl regional may not be bad and you know what kind of driving you want to do. If you're around Houston and don't mind driving in that traffic all day and tanker interest you what about checking that out? You've probably thought of that already but I'm just throwing it out there. Your experience doesn't seem that old at all so don't sell yourself short.
By far the majority of posters here do seem to want to help and once in awhile a thread gets off topic so don't worry about that. I wish you the best of luck and post here if you can on what you decide. -
