Why??? I hate the ####### thing. Usually turn volume down on it. Had it my way I wouldn't use it or GPS at all. I don't need it. I can read a map

you do realize that it is your company that programs the navigation system on peoplenet.
It is not an actual gps routing device, like a garmin.

And anybody who blindly follows any navigational system is an idiot.

You have to activate the navigation system on peoplenet, just don't start the sub module. I always just left my peoplenet on the hours screen.

I just use one to tell the wife when I'll be home. And for the speedometer because it is more accurate than truck .

Did you confirm this somehow, or is that an urban legend? It's questionable that a signal travelling to outer space and back would be more accurate than a sensor onboard.

It's just a tool. Like the atlas or your phone or your computer. I had some driver in the Pilot in Council Bluffs asked me once how anyone ever gets anyhow without one is beyond him. Really? It's simply a tool to use. I sure would never rely on mine. I have a TND 520 something or another. It's about the most stupid thing at times. Constantly wants to route you a way that is idiotic. And since my last update, it now won't route me to Wichita, KS from my home in Hutch on K96 because it says there is a low bridge. Seriously? Must be invisible.... LMAO Whatever....but it is handy for ETA, when if does finally agree with the route you are going. Truck stops and rest areas if you are going some place you are not familiar with.....but anyone that relies on it is foolish.

I'd like to see someone build a smart GPS. One that learns your routes when you go certain places multiple times. Or one that will allow you to program your own route. Whoever installed the brains in my GPS obviously did so at quitting time on a Friday or first thing on a Monday morning. It's freaking stupid.

Yes I caught a ride on the last space shuttle and had my friend drive my truck one day and I shot him with the hand held laser at pre determined coordinates and it came back dead on every time.
I did get a fuzzy reading in a thunderstorm in Indiana but it was well within spec.+- 1%.

To tell you the truth, the only thing a GPS is good for is that tiny dot where the final drop is usually within a mile or so of that point.
I've been driving a long time and decided to get a car GPS since I feel like being nice andtraining once in a while, although I found out quickly that the darn thing likes to tell at me and says things like make a uturn here, when in fact I drive that route all too often and already know my way.
I remember this one kid I trained he ended up believing that GPS meant business or was the final word in everything so what does he do lands us in a wet cornfield stuck with a full load and a farmer running at us with a shotgun. Kid left that day ain't seen him since he took off running. Probably for the best ended up costing close to 1200 in repairs farmer was nice enough to pull me out, asked him if he ever saw that boy again to give him a bus ticket and call me so I could pay for it. But not a word from him.

Yes it is a tool, one the operator needs to learn how to use...
My garmin Nuvi, allows the programming of routes, and saving of that route... It is all in learning how to use the tool, setting the options, and realizing that it is NOT a perfect system. But it does give you the most up to date map, that you can zoom into what ever detail you need.

yes the gps speed is more accurate than the speedometer on a car or a truck...
Verified against radar speeds, verified against time and distance speed...

And since the onboard sensor has a whole list of variables that must be programmed correctly,, even with the correct settings, it is subject to a variability of 5%...
Even changing which manufacture of tire you put on a truck, will change the accuracy of your onboard speedometer, unless someone reprograms the settings in the eprom, that controls the instrument panel.
