You don't need the title. If buying from a dealer, they'll give you a temp registration. Call your insurance company and add the truck. If this is your first truck and you don't have a policy yet, call OOIDA, they have a temporary policy that will get you home legally. Put the temp registration in the passenger side windshield and get to driving. I bought two trucks and trailers in MN and brought them home to FL.

Seeing as its being transported as a personal vehicle, not leased to a company....does it need a federal inspection?

How many commenting have actually moved a truck.i have purchased my last two on west coast and put bobtail ins on them flew out and bobtailed home to nc.no plate or stickers

Yes....a bill of sale and a temporary 7 day Tag plus bobtail insurance is enough to drive it home..(empty/ No commercial cargo of any type in it.)

I didnt have any tag.couple states made me buy permits.bought both at dealers.they would not supply temp tag.got both home 2 days drive time

So, bought the truck, got my 30 day reg for 8.50, got my Progressive Ins (didnt see the OOIDA ins till it was too late), got my title.....bypassed the two open scales i saw, no problems and got it home. Thanks all for the info, appreciate it much!
