If the truck is being paid by the mile, does it matter if you pay him by the mile or percentage ? should come out the same, no ?

First off, Peoplenet is garbage, I've seen worse but this system sucks. Second off, it's better to do the actual math to get your fuel mileage than to depend on a computer which even when accurate is not 100% accurate. Third, you're throwing out a fuel mileage number "6.2-6.8" which may not be good or is really good depending on the truck set-up I.E. tire size, rear end, transmission, engine, engine HP and terrain run. And finally fourth, installing an EOBR for logs etc. is no way to attract a reliable driver even though it may be the future of trucking.

common packages are % of gross and /mile. If you offer % of gross, he only eats YOUR profit if he puts his right foot down. I'd suggest limiting the truck a bit and rewarding good MPG with more HP. if he cant keep mpg up, the take away the power.

Thats cool and all but, as stated already, if you dont 120% trust your driver, WHY let him/her in your truck. Dont try to micro manage someone. Just set the deal and go.

I agree. The O/O I'm leased on with now started me @ $.42 driving his truck. Plus he offered $100 weekly bonus if I kept it above 6 mpg. And this was driving an ungoverned Pete 386 with a turned up C15 and 13 spd. Talk about caught between a rock and hard spot! Here I had a truck that would rock n roll, but I had to baby my right foot because he was a thirsty puppy.

The whole reason I stayed and leased on here was because he was fair and never short changed me come payday. Most money I ever made as a driver and doing very well as O/O here also.

So yeah,.. you get what you pay for. Give the driver a reason to be a committed company man and you will never regret it.

You should be looking around, then. I started at $0.44 with my current company last December (with less than 2 years on my CDL), and I'm up to $0.46 now. Home every night including Friday, back to work Monday morning, not Sunday afternoon when my 34 is up...

I would not work for less than .37 cents a mile. This guy obviously does'nt know the going rate.
