ok so I am in truck school in California and I am getting close to my DMV drive date. To be ready with a job when I pass I was sending out the feelers to a few companies. Long story short, I have had my app booted out by a couple companies to to a poor work history. Some gaps in employment.
I have waited a LONG time to do this and would really love a bit of advice to get me going.
Thank you all in advance for any info you might be able to give.

Which companies have kicked back your applications?
Unfortunately, you may have to pay your dues with a "bottom feeder" company for a year or so. Werner, Swift...etc.
But then again, there may be small local company that would hire ya.
Good luck and keep us posted. -
Northern Refrigerated and Jim palmer.

It has been awhile since I applied with Jim Palmer, but I was kicked back because I did not have 2 years experience.
Keep applying, and some outfit will pick you up. -
Get a notorized letter signed by family or friends saying you were unemployed during those gaps and looking for full time work. There's just no jobs in your area. With those gaps you need to make some phone calls along with the applications to explain you have notorized letters explaining the gaps. Put in lots of applications. Some companies still won't hire you, but plenty will.

Keep rattling off names Chinatown! You're getting paid!!! Lol. I'm sorry, bad memories of a former TTR member.....Western Express hires out of Cali, and would give him a chance. Not the best company, but if getting NO answers, it may be his ticket to experience.Chinatown, JBLittle, Tonythetruckerdude and 1 other person Thank this.

Yes, sometimes a driver just has to take what he can for a few months. After a year with the same company he should be good to go with most companies.BigBluePeter, Tonythetruckerdude, hal380 and 2 others Thank this.

I agree. Northern is a really good company too. Jim Palmer is owned by a Prime subsidiary. California really doesn't offer many great companies.

Thank you guys. I only know one thing for sure. I will never give up. This is what I have wanted for as long as I can remember so I'm just going for it.

I can relate to some of these drivers having problems getting started. Years ago in my younger days I had a little problem. Walked in to a company called Poole Truck Lines & they glanced at my application and threw the whole package into the trash can with me standing there. Then went to a company named ExpressCo and they hired me on the spot. Lots of ex-cons working there, some with many yrs. behind bars, state and federal and foreign. Guess who owned the company? Wayne Wise, the same man that started Western Express. He's passed away now, but I really liked the man. He was easy to talk to and never talked down to anyone. He had the ability to think like the person he was talking to no matter what level, so he could understand the other persons concerns.Lightside, JBLittle, hal380 and 1 other person Thank this.
