In Warrenton, Mo. for the night figured I could easily deliver load on Wednesday morning. Hope they give me decent miles before I go home.

    Be safe out there

Queenie, you set the tone of this thread. You and the work you have contributed are a big reason why I wanted to come to TransAm. We have got a lot of quality people contributing here, and I agree, this is a great thread and am happy to spend the time contributing what little I do. I think it speaks well of TransAm and it is important to portray them in a positive light. They have done good by me, so why not? They have taken a lot of hits about their lease program. Personally, I don't know if its good or bad. I know, I wouldn't lease if they paid me $1.00 a mile. I am not a judge or jury.

But we are in universal agreement about a newbie rookie leasing. Learn the ropes first, learn your woruk habits, the lifestyle, shipper/receiver habits. We haul a lot of meat which involves long waits sometimes. I have waited 32 hours in Amarillo TX, and then there have only been 1 hour waits in Liberal Kansas, and Beardstown IL. It runs the gamut. But, in a recession, I am glad to pull a reefer because people gotta eat after all.

Am I glad I got into trucking? You bet I am. The industry seems to be screaming for drivers. If you do your job, keep your cdl clean, don't hurt, or kill or hit any body make your appointments on time, then you will have a job. That, my friends, is called security. This industry doesn't care if you are male, female, black, white, red, yellow, purple, young or not so young. Strong or not so strong (I fall into the latter category), but I do my job to the best of my ability and experience level. I am a work in progress, but I am progressing. I love what I do and at this stage of my life (just turned 53) it is a godsend and a deliverance of sorts. I haven't been able to say that before and haven't had a job that I hated in my life. But I smile a bigger percentage of the time than ever before at work now. Makes the reefer malfunctions, waiting, breakdowns, refused loads, late for hometime, bad stuff palatable. Take the bad with the good. Plenty of both to go around, but consider myself lucky and blessed. PATIENCE AND FLEXIBILITY ARE KEY. Without either, you don't survive. Enough. Don't wanna make anybody puke. Deuces.

Remember it's not necessarily the computer that isn't up to the task anymore. They are made with about a 3-year obsolescence, not because of a failure of the hardware itself - the Apple Mac I use is 7 years old and is still working fine - but software developers make their programs so memory-intensive that most machines aren't designed for it. Mine is limited to 8 mgb of memory, which isn't enough for modern programs, so what I've had to do is uninstall a lot of programs I really like so others will run efficiently. Newer machines are built with 2-4 times the number of slots or more.
