truth is if you have been out here for any length of time you are going to have to deal with the good, the bad, and the ugly in trucking companies. The trick to making it as a driver is 1) getting enough time in to get where you need to be 2) only look for that next job that will lead you to happiness 3) if you find a bad company get away from them asap. But in all cases have a plan that lasts longer than the next haul. Plan where you want to be in 1, 3, 5, even 10 years and follow that plan, don't be rash and expect to be driving for a company where you get home every night first thing after school, if you do great, but don't expect it. You will most likely have to be on the road for extended period of time until you get enough time to get into a better job, straight out of school about a year, but sometimes as much as three years. All this time you need to keep your nose clean, no accidents or tickets.
Fact is in most cases this profession is what you make it. I've read a lot of complaints about companies and have found that a little communication between you, as driver, and your dispatcher goes a long way in solving problems. If he or she can, or will not, help, take the point to his/ her supervisor, at this point please have your facts straight. Be truthful and don't spin the story. The quickest thing to getting treated worse is not being truthful. If no satisfaction is made there look for someplace that suits you better. There are lots of jobs out there.

I think a lot of people come out here and think that they are going to strike it rich right away or even at all. Very well said post and informative to newer drivers. Hope most actually take what you said seriously.
