I don't know (the name bugs me too), and their reasoning for taking hours to unload my trailer was that they had to "split" the pallets up and sort (or itemize) them, versus throwing them into a confused mass ("lump").
Lumping and splitting are opposing tendencies in any discipline... otherwise I'd perfer to call them "viviparous eelpouts".
Shouldn't lumpers be called splitters?

Hi camionneur, new to trucking? Lumpers are and always have been some of the biggest crooks on the planet. (next to real estate agents and used truck salespeople) In all my years, I never ONCE got a lumper, and I've fingerprinted a lot of loads. (Truck tires were the worst) They work like turtles on valium, and I could unload a wagon in a third of the time a lumper could, provided the forklift guy took the stuff away. Just say no,,,,,to lumpers.mje Thanks this.

PChase Thanks this.

Jokingypsy and PChase Thank this. -

Hi "semi" retired,
How are you?
I got quite a laugh on your response to lumpers."semi" retired Thanks this. -
What I'd like to call them would be filtered on here...and if it did skirt the filter, would be deleted. So.......ya know.....I shall refrain.
Puppage Thanks this. -
The viviparous eelpout feeds on bottom-dwelling invertebrates... I guess that would be the trucker slouching in a seat, wishing they could also be certified to operate such complex power equipment as the lumper.

Ya'll shouldn't be too hard on the lumpers. Sometimes it's the company they work for. Trucking isn't the only "bottom feeder" business.

Hi mje, meh, so-so, got a haircut today. After 35 + years, I've got a million of them. Remembering them is another thing.:smt017mje Thanks this.

To each their own, I'm just catching up with the slang here, and looking to do something that involves more of me, both in delivering and splitting the freight, out thereI need the exercise after so much "bottom" feeding.Last edited: Sep 10, 2014
