If you will want to avoid toll roads completely it will make for a very hard day. Libertyville and Lake Forest are the easy ones, just take US41 but Rosemont? Just tell your boss to get an Ipass.

When I first started driving, and was on paper logs, I could understand this reasoning. As I gained some experience, I realized that if you have to run outside of the HOS guidelines in order to make a living, that you are underpaid and really need to look for another company to work for. There are a lot of options out there, and the only reason for a driver to have to spend more than 11 hours driving per shift, or 14 hours or more at work in order to earn a living is because the company is taking more than their share - especially when you're away from home for weeks at a time.
This is true most of the time. But there are some routes where many of the traffic lights are synchronized to allow unimpeded travel, provided that one observes the speed limit. Also during the overnight hours, traffic lights may not be as much of a factor.Lostkeys and bigdogpile Thank this. -
I live up in that area and I strongly suggest the toll roads. Save yourself the headache.

Doesn't sound like you have spent much time driving in the Chicago area, time lights, ya right.peterd Thanks this.

Well, depends. 1st, there's a scale on 41 just south of the state line and NB on 41 S. of 173(still there?)and were always open during the day. If it's at night, 41 isn't too bad, I've seen a lot of accidents on 41. Coming out of Kenosha, you can take 32, if you are going somewhere on the lake, but for the most part, just take the tollway, believe me, you can relax and it's a lot easier on the equipment.

Just have the company get an EZpass or some other toll transponder - let them deal with the charges and go through the EZ lanes. If they don't want to, tell them you will expect petty cash daily for the tolls.
When a driver is trying to find a solution to a problem that really is all about managing and money, then any solution may not be good for the driver because managers are not drivers and don't understand what it takes to actually drive safe while delivering to a customer. -
You're right, I haven't.

I was not trying to put you down but anyone who has driven there very much knows that you can't play lights when there is a quarter of a mile back up at everyone of them If you leave more that two car lengths of space between you and the car in front of you one of the Chicago idiots will jam his 4 wheeler in the whole. You are better of for not having to go to Chicago land.

This is what I was going to say. If they are a company out of Kenosha, then they probably have quite a bit of business in the Chicago area. They need to provide an EZpass for you, or like was mentioned above, provide you with cash. A company employee should not be required to pay tolls to do their job when it involves transportation.
