It amazes me that you think I'm scared of it. I'm not dumb enough to blindly follow it without looking at a map. I grew up reading maps. I love maps and they have yet to steer me wrong.

never said blindly follow it, but a Rand Mcnally atlas will NOT have anything in it that their trucker GPS does not because they use the same info.

Its always good to have more then one source of info. Not to mention, the paper map will not give you the weather nor will it show you traffic and route you around the traffic before you get stuck in it.

Blindly refusing to use something that can make you more productive is never a smart idea.

Whos gps shows I 69 between I 64 and Washington IN? Just looking to see who keeps their GPS updated the the best as RM does not as of last weeks update even though the 2014 hard copy has it.
Thinking I need a new one so many say never been steered wrong I guess in a way not just take the longer slower route without checking your route with a hard copy as well.

ha ha what does it matter, someone wants to use a gps, more power to em, they get in a jam cuz they dont read a map, thats their problem, they use it and it works, thats great. someone else would rather use an atlas (like me) who cares...to each his own...why has it become a society where we feel we need to impose OUR ideas and wishes on another ??? i am not a fan of a gps, but thats MY OPINION.....

I drove with someone who only used a road atlas. It took the guy 15 minutes before he was done with it, and he would stop periodically to "double check" it. What a waste of time and money.

those who blindly follow a paper map, or blindly follow a gps, have never learned to think for themselves...
Many today have been raised to ALWAYS blame their mistakes on someone or something else.
todays society does not reward personal responsibility, and non conformity.
today, respect is not taught, and few learn that we are all different, and respect of those differences makes a better person.

The original question was, why are drivers using gps units....
many good answers have been given, and directly attacked.
A gps is a tool, just like a paper map. Anyone who forgets that, and follows blindly is a fool.
