That may be but it is irrelevant to the point that i have driven 1000's of miles with the garmin dezl, rand mcnally 720 and rand mcnally 730 and the garmin is worthless. When i see someone talking crap on gps's and then i learn that their experience is based off of garmin i instantly know they dont know what they are talking about.
Drivers, why are we using GPS units?

my gps took me down a road once, in a new mexico town. there was a sign that said 13 feet bridge. trucks use such street. never did see the bridge or the street. and i went down and back on that road. good thing i'm only 12.6 high.

Me personally I DO have GPS in my truck. I use it as a TOOL... Not the RULE.
one of my former GPS units (one that I fired ) was "designed and programmed for trucks". It led me to a "Truckstop" in the buffalo NY area. The address it led me to looked like a disused crack house in a nasty #### ghetto.
i went with another (different brand) of GPS and have had no real problems with it.
Fact is still fact that if it's people and not some huge computer that's programming these GPS units it's highly likely that they have never even seen the inside of a truck ( truck as in a tractor trailer and not a pickup car) let alone driven one.
If you are trusting a doodad full of micro chips to lead you the whole way on your trip and it leads you onto a truck restricted road or a bridge with a 50 k weight limit or an underpass with a 12' clearance then you deserve to learn the lesson you are getting.
i reiterate a GPS unit is a TOOL... not the RULE.
Don't oh out making them out to be the best thing since Sliced bread.TLeaHeart Thanks this. -
rand does not use the same maps for gps as the atlas, rand does not make the map for their gps, they lease it from navteq.

i'm not the posts that said that.
but are you sure????? does it say on the box or somewhere that maps are provided by navteq. and are we all sure, that navteq is the only company around????
and as for humans programming the things. some of them must be doing some things right. i have the unit, the cell phone/tablet, and the laptop program all by the same company. i can't complain about mine just taking me away down the road. neither one makes me pull out the maps unless i want to see where i'm going at that point and time that i need to go. call it what you all want, but mine is a very valuable time saving tool.
granted i haven't been on every road in the country but so far i can't complain about mine. except for the rare occasion in los angeles.
only thing i can't be certain on, though, is the frost laws in the north. been fortunate enough to not be in them areas during that time of year. -

navteq is the original company, owned by nokia, which is owned by microsoft.
google maps, and google maps started with the navteq base maps. google is now trying to do it on their own, as they don't want to pay the fees to microsoft.
and atlas, a finish company, known as tomtom in the U.S., are the other two players. one other company tried to create navigable maps for gps, and apple maps is the result...
