I don't do restarts unless I absolutely have to. You're leaving a lot of money on the table by doing a restart. I've been to the west coast and back, twice, since my last restart. It can be done.

and that mean you re averging between 8 and 9 hours of on duty/driving time day right???
sorry if its a dumb question, i just do no want to start school next week dumb as a post -
Sometimes 10-11 hours a day. The thing is, you're never going to drive 11 hours everyday. Some days will be less. And that's where you use the "back 8". Back 8 is the last 8 days, or your recap. Since you'll most likely be on e-logs, the computer does it automatically for you.
-
still i want to know how it works not just rely on the computer.
Just so i am understanding it, all "on duty" time takes away from the 70 not just drive time? -
You start with 70 hours a week. Every minute driving or spent on-duty counts against that 70. Fueling, pre-trip, etc, all comes off the 70 hours. The trick is to use your on-duty and even drive time wisely. Now, your recap you can do by simply subtracting the hours you've used from 70 and go backwards.
-
So after 8 days do I get back the hours LEFT from from on duty time from 8 days ago or the hours I spent on duty? I.E. let's day I'm on duty for 10 hours, therefore I've not used 4 hours of my on duty day, do I get those four hours back after 8 days or the 10 hours I was on duty?

I stayed out this week rather than go home, (wife said she had no use for me this week) Im sitting here at the Big Cabin TS just off I44 in Oklahoma. My load of steel coils delivers in Pryor about 25 miles south of me on Monday by 4pm. Ill hang out here get my reset in for when they send me home on friday. Last thing I want is to be out of hours with only a few more to go till home.
What i do to save on my 70...If im not driving, or being loaded, after 30 minutes of loading, im in the sleeper. period. Go home weekly for my reset, and never bumped up against my 70. -
I like that truckstop.Took many brakes there.I always parked near their pond and let my dog have fun.

If you've not used those 4 hours there is nothing to get back as you haven't used them. On the 9th day you'd get back your 10 hours.FuzzFace2 Thanks this.

You used that quote inversely.
