US Foods/Sysco in Port Orange has overnight parking if that is where you were headed.

First of all, the 8 hour work day is pretty standard across most industries in this country so I disagree with your notion that it is "trucker mentality". "Trucker mentality" seems more like running yourself into the ground working 14 hour days until the regs shut you down for 34 hours in the middle of nowhere so that you're stuck in a closet for 2 days until you've got hours available to commence running yourself into the ground again.

That sort of thinking makes no sense to me. When I worked for a company that kept me out 2-3 weeks at a time, I planned my trips so that I never ran out of hours. We didn't have the "restart" back then, and I just don't care to sit around at a truck stop in BFE for 2 days waiting to pick up hours again. I leave the house to work, and if I CAN'T work, it ticks me off if I'm not home where I can be getting things done. If a load HAD to go, I'd work whatever I had available to get it there...but if I had time? 8-9 hours per day and I'd call it quits for the night.

Ever since the restart provision took effect, most I've stayed out is a week. Burn through my hours M-F and restart at the house over the weekend.

Hurry up and wait has never been my thing. Restarting on the road? Not gonna happen. If I'm out, I want hours available to run.

Na what you gotta do is be creative and find some other places to park at other than just a truck stop.
Try smaller truck stops as well. Everyone and there brothers and sister's tries to park at TA's, Pilots and love's .

    let's be realistic.

if we aren't running ourselves into the ground. we aren't making any money. we don't get paid 6 figures to work 8 hours. we get paid middle 5 figures and we have to earn it all.

it's not just the long haul operations that run you into the ground also. i hauled dirt for 10 years and used up my 60 in 5 days. or sometimes it was 6. but, overtime was paid and that made for really sweet paydays.

i don't like sitting around nor do i like running myself into the ground, but it is what it is. we're not ceo's. we're slaves.

For me It's a choice between 14-16 hours a night in the truck stop to stay on that 8-10 hour schedule and never run out of recap hours or 8-10 a night in the truckstop and a reset at home or in a hotel. I spend less time in the P smell with a restart.

Make more money too since I get paid about 160 bucks to reset on the road and the company pays for the hotel.

It's dark and scary and monsters lurk out there. Why wouldn't someone be afraid of the dark?

This is why I carry an orange cone, if I can't find a place I pull onto a fuel aisle, place cone in front of my truck and nobody will bother me for at least 10hrs, works perfectly! ;-)
