I never sign a rate confirmation or agree to having a fine levied on my company.....PERIOD!! Too many things can happen out of my control that would cause a problem with delivery or pick up. The truck could break down, bad accident or unusually heavy traffic could all interfere with my ability to deliver as agreed. If a fine clause in on the paperwork, I mark through it, call the broker or shipper and if they insist on the clause, I cancel the load. I have an excellent service record. But, I also make sure to stay in touch with the broker and/or shipper/consignee. Everyone needs to be kept in the loop. If I see that there might be a problem with my next load then I try to reschedule or cancel the load with enough time where the load can be covered. It is critical to kep the lines of communication are kept open.

Detention aside, there is no amount of detention that will ever compensate for you dropping a load. if you must pre-book, make sure you tell the broker your PU is conditional upon getting unloaded in XYZ. Then he shares in the risk.

i got a lot of loads from coyote and i always told them after 2 hours waiting(as long as i made my app.time) there would be a 50.00:yes2557: an hour charge for detention.on most loads they agreed.you have to be specific on freight charges before you make the pickup.when the shipper/receiver knows ahead of time about detention chargers they are pretty quick on getting you in or out.

    So. Once again.
I am being hold at the receiver. The appointment was set for tuesday. Now, they are changing it. Receiver said that he pays the broker $350 per day. However, broker (XPO) is saying that he will only pay $150 per truck.
So, how do I fight this? How do I make them unload me?
And broker is literally laughing when talking to me.
Do I drop the load on the street? or What do I do?

Did they changed the appointment after you've picked up the load knowing that you're going to be empty on Tuesday ?
$ 150 per day is nothing if you have another load waiting to be picked up .
