Y'know, if you'd mentioned right from the outset that another vehicle was involved, I rather doubt Chief would have been so scathing. He was responding to the information provided. I know *I* read your original post and had "what an idiot" thoughts. I'd be willing to bet Brickman and Tip did, too.
If you'd included ALL the information at the outset, maybe OTHER people would have come forward with assistance. Maybe even Chief. Now we all have to wonder "what else is missing?"

Under the proper circumstances, I sure would.
If it was the driver's error -- at least now they know their limitations. Can you provide proof of that claim?"Most" companies?
Again, can you provide the statistics for that statement?Actually, I believe he said "more than $5,000".Are you serious? Would/Will YOU?YuP!
Not to mention injury and the risk to life.
There ya go, Chief.
At today's prices, five-thou adds up real quick.
That's scary, Bonzai!!
Did you come out ok?
How 'bout the other driver?
And THAT'S why I'da hired you in a New York minute, Bonzai.
AfterShock may be many things --- but he knows a quality Big truck truck driver when he reads one.
Bonzai, I recommend you try some of the smaller truckin' companies. Small enough to UNDERSTAND and appreciate your predicament.
Good luck!

YuP!
That's twue.
Chief, also, could have inquired for more details, rather than assume.
Ya reckon.
-
So how does he get fired after he was hit? maybe he ran a red light?
-
That's a fair question.
-
My guess is Chief NEVER made a mistake in his life, never did anything stupid.
-
I have done well OVER $2000 in damages just by hitting a deer, so how bad can $5000 in damages be?
-
You were "T-boned"? And it was ruled "preventable"? Did you run a light? IF NOT, then you should work at getting the "preventable" changed to "NON-Preventable". Not sure how to do that, but it IS possible.
-
I'm thinkin' two good sized bucks oughta git 'er done.
Ya reckon.

Well, maybe a couple of those Rocky Mtn Mule deer, but it might take a half-a-dozen of those pansy coastal types.
