I'm just out of school and looking to move into tankers. I received an offer from another company, but they told me it might be four months before they can get me started, so I'm looking at Schneider.
I have received a conditional offer and I think I'm going to take it, since everyone tells me that their tanker training is very good.
My question is this: What kind of miles can I expect from them if I go the regional route? They told me I would have a choice of either regional or OTR when I go to the orientation. I want regional, so long as the miles are decent, and if not, I'll go OTR.
Any Schneider regional guys out there can give me any info. Assuming all goes well I will be working out of the Houston terminal.

I would love to hear responses to this and even more so, what you choose to do and how things work out. Hoping you keep us updated!

I know I'm going to Houston next week. But whether I'm going regional or OTR is up in the air. The recruiter told me about 2300 miles per week OTR, but didn't mention the regional averages. I figure it's less, which is OK if it's not too much less.Alaska76 Thanks this.

With Schneider tanks how is the rider/spouse program? I want to take her after training.

I used to work at Schneider, but on the van side. I can't answer your question directly but can give you some general food for thought.
You should be able to begin in regional, then if the miles or pay is not enough to satisfy you, you should easily be able to switch to OTR without much hassle. That would be easier than starting OTR and then trying to switch to regional. Also, keep in mind in tankers you have accessorial (sp) pay that helps supplement your mileage pay: ie. tank washes, detention, pump, etc. Miles help, but they are not the only entity by which you receive pay.NoeDavid Thanks this. -
i don't know about experienced, but for inexperienced it's 6 accident free months before you can have any riders.NoeDavid Thanks this.

I'm pretty sure that you can't have riders while pulling tanks for Schneider.

It's 6 months, doesn't matter if you're experienced or not. The only other option is to lease, then you can take them the day the lease papers are signed.
