Donaldson Good grief you cant type one word.

cleaning is a bad idea. replace with new. when you try to clean, blow out, e.t.c you loosen dust, dirt particles, that get sucked thru the engine. after taking old filter out wipe inside container with a vary damp cloth, let dry & put in new filter. if you have a foam type filter or another type that IS reusable, than do what the mfr say's, but if it is a paper type disposable, throw it out after it's full use & get new.
-
Considering most paper air filters will last 200-300k miles before needing changed I'd just change it.

Well if you're trying to save some money you could extend the life of your filter by using a lawn blower. I'm not really of the opinion that leaving a dirty filter in there is better than taking it out and blowing it. And I'm not really agreeing that after blowing it out really well, it is somehow going to be worse than if you hadn't touched it. You just have to be careful not to break the paper by blowing too forcefully. I've cleaned air filters like this and have had a lot of success. Again, this is if you're really strapped for cash, because...
... obviously the best method is to replace it. -
At $25 a filter, I just replace it every 90 days ...

That's a lot of wasted money over the life of a truck. A filter will last at least a year if not more on highway use. Unless your driving around dirt filled construction sites there's no need to change it that often.Last edited: Oct 1, 2014

i give up.where do you personally purchase a $25.00 air filter? $65.00+/- is the average,at least those that i have personally bought.double yellow Thanks this.

ever operate in severe conditions? I think not judging by your reply. Not being a smartarse, but even under <less than severe conditions,an air filter will not last 250,000 miles unless it is of the washable type.why would you want to use an air filter w/that many miles on it? if you pull it out and dirt can be knocked off of it w/out blowing air thru it,it is time to replace it.I generally blow those i use out 3 times max. I am off road more than most but still, you are talking about the next most important item on your engine next to the oil filter.
250,00-300,000 miles. wow.that is a lot of miles on the same air filter. my opinion only.double yellow Thanks this. -
