Unless you can afford private CDL school, then Prime is a good choice considering you want to remain in the Northeast.

All those companies you mention does Northeast but you living in the NE,chances are they'll keep you away from the NE till hometime.Thats just how this industry works. With an OTR company you won't find one that pays better for the drivers that live in the NE.Werner has a lot of NE freight and a lot of NE dedicated customers but the pay has a lot to be desired. You with a family and no trucking exp will not find an otr company that meets your ecspectations concerning the pay.I would suggest digging deeper and finding a better company and different typing of trucking that trains. You will not find it with the companies you mentioned.

if i was you i would go to trucking school to get your class A . continue driving the school bus until you finish CDL school. then you can find a legit trucking job after you graduate. you'll start out doing regional runs just in the NE . and then score a local job in the nyc area son!

I'm really thankful for the advice you guys are giving me cause at least I have a better idea on how to go about this than when i first started and what i'm gathering from what chinatown, PChase, Pattyj, Orangepicker, and jabekins is that OTR is not good when it comes to family but as far as gaining experience if i can afford going to a private CDL school then go but i feel that i'm better off getting that kinda training at one of the major companies. The best fit trucking fields for me since i do have a family would be LTL and Intermodal (yea see i been doing more research thanks to you guys lol) but what i realized which is the problem i'm having here in NYC is that companies look for experience so with that in mind you guys suggest go to prime get the training and sign on for a yr get whatever the recruiter promises me in writing and then if i make it through that yr or maybe 2 with no tickets or accidents then stick to the plan of doing LTL or Intermodal. Also with the issue of relocating my family i've also reconsidered maybe getting your thoughts on the southeast maybe being that northeast seems to be a lil limited when it comes to the industry as far as work and home time is concerned which i mean wouldn't really matter if i'm working on going LTL or intermodal correct? and just another quick question someone has mentioned schneider your thoughts on them as well please?

Schneider is a good company and they pay for private CDL school. Schneider is a good place to get tanker training; do that for a year then easy to get a local tanker job.

Consider states with no personal income tax if you relocate; there are 7 of them. I've lived in 3 of them, Tennessee/Florida/Nevada. Texas is also good. Southern Nevada is pretty much summertime year round which for me is a big plus. You don't have to live right in the cities, but can live in outlying areas and still be in hiring range for good companies. Good trucking jobs all along the Gulf Coast from Tampa to Corpus Christi.

    Nashville, Gatlinburg, TN/Knoxville
    Dallas/Ft. Worth
    Houston
    Las Vegas/Henderson/Reno areas of Nevada

Check those two websites, "Redfin" and "city-data" and you will be surprised how many nice places to live and raise a family.
