Just so everyone knows, this company sucks with home(Bethlehem PA) time..a few weeks ago, after 2 months out, I put in to have off from the 4th thru the 7th inclusive. So today is the 3rd I deliver at 0900 in Hendersonville TN and just got a message saying that they have a load near my delivery location that Picks up on Saturday morning(4th) and delivers on Monday(6th) near my home...what kind of #### is that?? They have me sitting a whole day waiting to pick a load that picks up on the day that my home time should start?? Melton sucks!!!

That's on part with the vast majority of carriers out here. It's not just a Melton problem.

I'm not saying that it's right or that it's fair, just saying that it is what it is. I've been late by a week. I've missed my kids birthdays, holidays, important dates, all of it. There's nothing you and I can do about it except buy our own trucks.

There have been times when I've told myself that I'm turning in the truck next time I'm late. I've told DM's that I'm done if they can't get me home on time... but guess what, I'm still here! It's the nature of the beast.

Now, when I put in home time, I expect to be late.

I'm putting in hometime for haloween, good chance that I'll miss that.

My daughter will be born November 24. I am not going to miss that. I know for a fact that I am not going to miss it. If Melton cannot or will not get me home for it, they'll have a few 100 thousand dollars sitting in a lot somewhere and I'll be on a plane. Period.

If you must be home for something, you will be home for it. The decision is yours.

so far each time ive asked to be home ive been home a day early. i know all kinds of different factors probably play the part, where you live, where you are, who we pick up from etc. but i think after not being home for 6-8 weeks the very least they should do is get you home on time, day before or after but thats it. dont you?

ive told my dm that. could be my dm, could be that i have to give 2 weeks notice so more time to plan, where i live but who knows. im not planning on hometime til like a week before thanksgiving.will be away from home for 10 weeks this time, got a few things planned that i dont want to miss ill prob use guaranteed hometime just to not chance it.
sorry youve been having problems with it.

Every company has a system in their way of doing things to asked to start home time on a Saturday is not within their system parameters very few companies take deliveries or ship on Saturdays/Sundays melton very rarely gets me home on the day I ask before noon if I'm not home before noon that day doesn't count so you have to learn to play their system I like as much home time as possible so I stay out 4 to 5 weeks at a time I always put in be home on Monday and come back out Friday since they never give me home on time Monday they usually either send me home early I get home Saturday or I get home late Monday so I add Friday to my days off with a return on Saturday my DM knows I take 4 full days off when I go home but I still have to remind him every time I go home I lucked out this last time home. home time was set for 09/22/2014 thru 09/25/2014 return 8 AM on the 26 got a load to Tulsa with three drops the Friday before finished my drops and it up in the shop deadheaded home Saturday morning A problem came up when I was at home call DM and added Friday to My home time got back on board Saturday morning I had a preplanned for me Sunday at 11 AM got 20 minutes away from the house they called me and told me the load was canceled turnaround went back home they gave me a load picking up at the same place at 7 AM Monday Took a 10 hour break left back out Sunday night for a 4 Hour Dr. Springdale I ended up with nine days at home and only cost me five days home time I usually don't get that much time at home but about 50% of the time I get home the Saturday/Sunday before my home time or they can't find me a load on Saturday

if you need to be home on a specific day be prepared to take two days off before that. before they started this guaranteed home time day. If you had an appointment you started your home time two days before I would put on the Hometime request have an appointment at 9 am with the date of the appointment and would put can't be home any later than the day before I would keep in contact with my DM if I got loads it didn't me home on time I would be asking him where we are repowering this load I have an appointment I can't miss this still works in most places people live I don't know anybody that only has one appointment every six months two days before the appointment is plenty of time to get you home. if you DM gives you any----.

P.S. Don't get me wrong in six years they haven't got me home every time on time but they have at least 80% of the time it counted and have not missed any important appointments as long as I was willing to work with them not just Yell at them

I have to concur. Learning how to use there system.to your advantage makes a difference. I always request home time on a Monday or Friday. Seems to get me home best. Although I am probably around 50/50 if I am home on time. I normally take 4 days off. I would like to get better home time. 1 day off for 1 week out (most companies do this) is pretty unfair considering we work 14 to 18 hours a day. Even so not ALL hours are logged(tarping securing etc) when office ppl work 40 hours and take a weekend off. But its just the nature of the beast. I like that Melton lets us bank our days we don't use.
