Hopefully it's not a flux capacitor I'd hate to see where he ended up if he hit 88mph lol

So run another cable from the the block to frame or alternator to frame ?

I had to rebuild the alternator on my 2000 n14 as well , on the 16th of last month.... the bearings were shot, and the alt was sending 17.5-18.9 volts to the batteries!!! NOT good.
when I picked up the rebuild alternator from the shop- the guy behind the counter told me there was no reason for that "extra" wire on the alternator. SO I left it off. same as you did. Now the battery light is on on the dash (same as you) and the radio and CB seem to have extra noise/ static when they are on- so needless to say- I put that "extra" wire back on...but haven't had time to test it on a load yet.. But I hope that helps... BOTH OF US>>>
