now i wasn't aware of this problem but apparently it is . a driver with a felony in his background not being Abel to get a job things are changing and all of it not good, now i no some of the bigger company's are pricks in fact most of them are but there are still a lot of company's out there that are not however if it becomes a serious problem problem for you there is something you can do about it.
you can hire an attorney and petition the court for an oder of relief and have your record vacated if the felony is old and your record has been clean cinch there should not be a problem getting it once that is done your record will be cleared completely thus no record been there done that. now the bad thing is you have to hire an atty to get it done but that is a way out.
also you can try looking for work in Atlanta which is the largest shipping hub in the us i get 20 e-mails a day from company's looking for drivers doesn't do me any good I'm not a company driver but the work is there.
and don't let these wise dick heads with there smart remarks discourage you just consider the source.
good luck to all of you. southernpride![]()

Hi guys! I'm an unemployed sex offender. I went to a 160 hour trucking school in 2013 and left with my class A with hazmat and a TWIC. About 10 months later (and at least 80 applications to various companies both large and small) I was finally able to get a job with Carolina Cargo. I'm sure many of you have heard of them. They will hire nearly anyone, but there's a trade off. They only pay .10cpm. Their trucks are mostly 2006-2009's with 1.5 to 2.9 million miles on them. They break down often and, when they do, your stuck for days. You have to scream at everyone to get breakdown pay but it isn't much anyway. Getting in touch with maintenance is nearly impossible and, when you do, they take forever to get you fixed. The upside is you will gain experience...not that it will do you any good. Most companies will not hire us and I've found out why. It's rare that it's just a company policy but it happens. They don't want their customers complaining. Also, many companies go to Canada so they need you to have that ability. The biggest reason is insurance rules. Transportation companies must have two types of insurance, vehicle coverage and load coverage. Being a sex offender means you have a restriction on your license and many insurance companies will refuse to cover you, at least not without raising the rates a lot. The biggest issue is getting you bonded. That's where the biggest issue lies. Now there is a program via the federal government (and some states) that will bond you but it's only for 6 months. After that the company must pick you up. Aside from that issue I found that there's a catch-22 for us. With the larger companies mostly refusing to hire us for whichever reason, smaller companies are more likely to hire us. The catch? Smaller companies can't afford the insurance rates that larger companies pay so to get more affordable rates they will only hire drivers with years of experience. Well, where are we suppose to get that experience? I guess that's the million dollar question, isn't it? Sadly, most of us may turn out to be very good drivers and devoted employees. It's so hard for us to get a job that once we do have one we don't want to lose it. We are less likely to complain, call out, and will work harder than most to prove ourselves worthy. It's all about what we look like on paper. I look great up until my criminal background and/or MVR since it is also on that. Has anyone heard of the new laws called "Ban The Box?" It's in a few states. Basically it's a law that states no employer may ask an applicant about their criminal background unless they are considered for hire. It allows felons a chance to be interviewed without their application getting trashed first. It's a joke! A "feel good" law. There's a fast, simple way for employers to find out legally. All they have to do is ask you if you are able to enter Canada.
