What would you do?

    Well to be honest, I'm just pulling permits for Tn, Ky and Oh. Pa will be closed, the Scale in Ct on 84 will be hit or miss. I'll take the chance it will be closed. Mass and into Nh will be easy as my route luckily wont be going by any scales,.. so no point in pulling those permits.

    If I do get popped,.. I'll let you guys know and then you can scold me and say I told ya so. LOL.

    And yeah,.. trying to get this delivered by Mon early AM. I already have a load lined up coming out of Londonderry that needs to be picked up by noon. Not being able to run at night puts a real damper in being able to do that.

    Hurst, is it possible to get a partial on there to help with your costs? Also, may I suggest running 81 up to 84 to avoid those tolls. They usually charge double toll rates for overside loads.

    I can get a partial. But money isnt the problem brother. This is paying $4800 for 1560 mi. $3 mi basically. That and I have a load coming back out paying $3100. So money isnt the issue.

    My issue is that the over size is so small, and I'm such a cheap bastage, that its difficult for me to justify paying for the permits. Even though its the right thing to do. I dont like the idea of being fined if I dont get the permit,.. I dont like being restricted to day time driving, and stopping to show my permit at each scale house. Thats where I hold issue.

    If I had a 10ft wide load, then yes,.. I can justify the permits.

    But an excavator with barely 1.5 inches of over hang? It just urks me to have to do it.

    Its like skipping French class in school. Pointless class,.. but if you get caught the consequences wont be good. LOL

    And as for the route,.. yeah,.. I'll be coming into PA through Hubbard, taking 81 up around to 84. There is a $13.50 toll coming into Connecticut from Ny on 84. I have Ez Pass, so no problem.

    Toll is actually 30 miles from the ct line, and last ezpass statement it was $11.50 on 5 axles. Ct scale is rarely open weekends, easy to go around as well.

    i hear ya on its so close to legal, yet would change your whole plan to do as a legal OS. A couple inches high I wouldn't sweat-couple inches wide is easier to spot in motion much less coming thru a scale. I think getting the width permit for states you're likely to have to stop in is a good plan. I'd skip the height permit if your only 2" up.

    Hey Hurst, don't forget having to deal with the missus if you get caught. Women love to rub that in, and it will take years to undo. In my career, I was a firm believer in "No Guts, No Glory", and I was a TOTAL outlaw, broke every rule that would bend, but it's just not the same anymore, and you can't get away with anything now. That's some nice paying freight, so it's not like you are doing for nothing, (which I'm sure you have), so it will be fine, and you can relax, like Neil Young sang about, "Just increases my paranoia, like a police car in my rear view mirror".:biggrin_2559:

    I won't run anything w out permits if it actually needs them. Call me chicken but I always think of liability , I think if there was an accident and even if it wasn't my fault a lawyer and LEO would be eager to sink their teeth into me and what I have worked for. I mean O/S permits aren't even costly.

    Also, if you aren't running a tight timeframe coming back down from Londonderry, hit me up and I'll buy you dinner when you're near my neck of the woods. I'm on the west side of ct right off 84. Got a place to park, and I'll be around.

    goes for any other regular posters on the flatbed section too.

    I'd offer a new rate. Pull permits if it is accepted, TONU if the new rate is refused.

    Scales are only part of your problem. What happens if a DOT cop rolls up along side of you and notices?

    When I hauled logs, my job was also to move the equipment from job to job. The big loader and some of the skidders would overhang a couple inches on both sides. We'd just run 'em...never did get popped. Then again, that was on a Battle Wagon log trailer, not a flatbed. I always figured I'd tell the cop it was a 96" wide trailer and play dumb "That's what the company told me..." if the cop had a tape measure handy.

    'course that was 10+ years ago...
