I talking with another driver while waiting in line at the fuel desk and he casually mentioned that he was carrying 46K of copper. I tried to change the topic without being obvious, but he kept going on about it. By the time I had my receipt, I knew where he'd loaded, where he was headed, and the route he was probably taking to get there. There were other of people standing there with us, and I kept thinking to myself that this was how loads get stolen.
It goes without saying that most drivers pulling a high dollar load know that talking about it isn't a good idea. This guy even mentioned that his boss warned him to be careful, but here he was chatting it up and giving everyone within range of his big mouth all the information they needed if they wanted to hijack him.

Loose lips sink ships. Or, in this case, they get a gun pointed at your head and your load taken if not your life.

Awww, no big deal; I tell everybody everything!
So what if it gets stolen?
Insurance will cover the loss.
Plus, my wife makes out like a bandit from my company paid life insurance should I get "waxed"!
Everybody wins!
Plus, whoever stole it probably needs the money more than my company does.
Enjoy!Freddy57 Thanks this. -
Wow.... that is crazy... I dont talk about any load I am hauling.. even if it is dunnage...
I remember being told over and over not to and why....
You know, this should be posted in the new driver section too... because it is important. . -
He probably just assumed he was in safe company standing there at the fuel desk with a bunch of other drivers, but sure, don't make it easy for anybody. Loads do disappear on occasion.

sounds like the team in Phoenix last month that was in the flying J bragging about hauling a $12 million load of gold wire... stupid.
-
Sounds just like the guy I saw last Friday bragging about his new truck was getting good fuel mileage with a lightweight load of I-Phones......I'm glad I pull a dump......no one wants to steal a truckload of coal around here.

One day all his bragging will get him into a serious situation.Companies stress not to share any info with anyone about the load.

I used to work for a company that hauled raw copper from the mine to a refinery where you would be reloaded with refined copper. We hauled it on a flatbed with no tarps so it was pretty obvious to anyone what we were hauling. Have they changed the way they ship that stuff? Do they make you tarp it now so people can't see it?

Wow, that's some serious value there, what a dumb ###. Truckload or even just a few pallets of iPhone 6 would be big money.
