In an effort to attract new younger drivers, and retain their current workforce, many trucking carriers have been are increasing the mileage rate in which they pay their drivers.
US Xpress announced that they increased wages 13% last month. Other carriers like Swift, Conway Truckload, and Transport America announced pay increases or plan on raising pay in the coming months. The list is expected to get much longer.
Max Fuller, CEO of U.S. Xpress, addressed the increased pay rate for OTR solo drivers by calling it a monumental step to becoming the carrier of choice for safe, career-minded professional truck drivers.
Trucking analysts expect a 6% increase in driver pay this year, which is the 2nd highest increase since they started tracking the data in 1994.
Many companies in 2014 had to turn away orders as volume increased due to a shortage of qualified drivers, and as long as they remain short on drivers the pay increases are expected to continue.

In Waterloo, Ia. Tyson actually has my load ready but with less than an hour left on my 14 will do my 10 hour break here then roll. Load isn't due till the 8th at 2000 in the middle of Ohio so I have plenty of time. I am going to try and end up in a truck stop that we do a lot of swaps at. Will message my dispatcher tomorrow morning see what he can do. I can't wait for Emily to be on for her 7 days, she always keeps me running.
HTQ the industry must have gotten a huge raise cause these companies don't give out a raise unless they get one.
Be safe out therepassport220 and HometimeQueen Thank this. -
^Let us know if you pull of a swap and where you do it. In that spot I think I would just take the load as far east as I could on I-80: Lake Station, South Bend, Freemont, IN or Toledo, OH depending on where I would need to turn off to make my delivery and hope for a swap there.
I showed up for my swap last night at the appointed time. My swap partner showed up bobtail. He took my load to run miles and I am sitting here without a trailer unable to make my next pick up. Waiting all night and this morning for dispatch to find a trailer.HometimeQueen and jaso37 Thank this. -
That sux. Hope they find one for you soon, or at least DH you to the meat patch.
passport220 Thanks this. -
Well HTQ I will be making the move after finding a house of my own for my family which will hopefully be sometime by the end of the year, my 12 years at my current employer looks better on a morgage app than less a year at another. Then looking to start the training after I get into the new house so it is nice and fresh for any company out there, and hopefully in time to get on a truck to get some training time in with winter conditions.
That truely does suck passport, One thing that I read somewhere that sounds like a good idea and may help is to keep a list of where the company likes to preposition trailers at for times like that. That is if they would mind it or not.
And for those that are near them the gas station Race Trac is doing Free coffee all next week any size any coffee. And they even have pumkin coffee for those that want it and can find a location, They are real big here in Florida with a presence in the Dallas Fort Worth, Northern Geargia, and southern Louisiana area's.passport220 and HometimeQueen Thank this. -
Just curious , how many miles do you get on average of new tires ?
And the Avett brothers are awesome. My daughter had January Wedding played at her wedding.
10,000 words is one of my favorites..honeybadger. Thanks this. -
You should get a lot more out of steers than I did. I replaced one steer a year ago because I was on the verge of catastrophic blowout and then chose to have my other one swapped a month later with nearly identical tread. That was around 90000 miles. I'm now at 191000 miles and in the last month my alignment went from a little off to really off and destroyed my tires. Tread overall should have gone another 8 months minimum but I was getting some bad wear in spots and was just starting to show cords in one spot in the last couple days. I had my alignment done last week and should be set. Barring alignment or other problems affecting tire wear, getting 250 or more shouldn't be an issue.
My ex turned me on to The Avett Brothers. He is the one who rescued and named my dog Avett. I started listening to some of their stuff out of curiosity and was hooked. My pup is registered with ASCA ((A tracking number with the Aussie club so we can compete in Rally next year)) as CT's Kick Drum Heart. I like that song, February Seven, I Would Be Sad, and Love Like The Movies in particular. And Swept Away!dennisroc and HometimeQueen Thank this. -
In Gary IN awaiting a swap at the TA (I know, I know) which will happen after midnight. My 10 will be up around 430 am. Once again I avoid Champlin MN Cardinal Health (3rd time) and end up with a supervalu load going to Hopkins MN, just due south of Champlin. Its up to me to save the load hence the swap. I was running 12 hours ahead on my original load so that will give the other drver plenty of time to catch his or her break and deliver that load on time. Time to sleep. Deuces.
jungHo and HometimeQueen Thank this. -
