Go drive for a company, dont come out swinging hard, because the harsh reality is you will get knocked on your ###. Its not like back in the day trucking, we shall see in 2 months time, it will separate the men from the boys... You dont have trucking experience and you are asking for brokers etc. Thats your first mistake, looking for brokers. Who ever is paying 15k for insurance is getting screwed royally as well. I am 25 and my yearly premium on a 65k tractor, 10k trailer, 1,000,000 coverage etc is $7400.

That's good advice. That's a good premium. Mine is $5600. I'm old and my old truck isn't worth 65k. I would add, have a couple of grand in the bank or have access to at least $5,000.00. Don't touch it! that will be enough to pull you out of a jam.

When buying a truck just remember after the purchase you don’t own the truck, the truck owns you. Payments on big trucks make car payments look like baby $***. Don’t forget with your own authority you will also need a trailer to pull freight.

550 your statement on insurance is great for a solo. It was real close to what I had quoted till I added my brother. I called around everywhere to get him covered and all I got was laughs on the line. I called progressive and they wanted 24k and limited my radius to 500 miles... that was nuts. I am not getting screwed by paying 15k it is a resolve to be able to train my brother with no experience and teach him all aspects of the business. Anyway definately search your rates, settle within your means.

I didnt catch the training part, didnt see it was you who posted that either or i would've put the two together.... The more trucks ya got the cheaper the rate will be, im sure if i had one truck it would be more, but since we have 2 trucks under the authority its cheaper. Full premium for 2 trucks is 14,800.

I own a 2000 Peterbilt that has been sitting for about a year now. I wanted to run all over the east coast, but the costs are too high for someone starting out there. I have a good solid job and wanted to hustle at nights and on the weekends.
Know anything about containers on the east coast?

Wow I got to say 15K for insurance I think even training your getting it pretty hard. I added a inexperienced driver to my policy and with there good driving record and mine I pay $7300 a year. Ofcourse I have a cheaper truck and trailer but still.
My 2cents on starting out for someone is have a few grand or more saved or atleast on stand by some where. By a older truck thats been overhauled and save the money you would of spent on a new truck. Older trucks have less to go wrong and against what most people say they dont nickel and dime you to death any worse then a new truck. I bought a older pete with just at a million miles less then 30k on a complete overhaul and alot of other work. I have put almost a 100k on it without any big repairs and the stuff that has went wrong I fixed myself. Now its paid for and I am making money.
Also if you can figure it out run under your own authority and be in charge of your own future. Listen to every old time trucker you can talk to. I ran into one a year ago and he told me what to expect with my truck and gave me other pointers and the guy was right on. Besides if I have a major repair its easy to do since I dont have 1500 a month payments.
    Just my thoughts
