I think it has a lot more to do with how efficiant you run, minimizing your unneeded expenses, out of route, not stopping at every truck stop for food, doing some of the maintenence if allowed, taking care of not damaging your truck and tires. Plus taking only freight runs that are actually worth the run. From what I see prime pays based on mileage, and personally, that doesnt make a bit of sense to get paid via mileage.
L/O preferred truck?

LOL I guessing that means its alot more? If thats the case I certainly aint a believer -
Hey man if $2,000 every week is all you can make leasing at prime then why bother. Heck i know cr england driver making $2500 a week, and a werner driver making $2800. So whats the point of doing a fleece program though prime?
-
It was obvious to me that he probably meant to say net not gross.
-
That's the real key to making money in trucking or any business... no matter how you're dealing with paying for the truck. The point is that a large truck payment requires that you be very efficient in your operation.
Our company guys are paid by the mile. ICs are paid by percentage of linehaul, fuel surcharge and accessorials.
Yep... a lot more. Most weeks I'm in the neighborhood of
$5000 gross. but it does vary depending on the time of year.
Bottom end of the range. I can certainly see someone who doesn't know how to manage a logbook, doesn't keep the left door shut, etc, being down in this range. If I'm taking time off the road, I like to see this kind of money on the books just to cover the fixed costs.
NET??? Yeah, you betcha brother! I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I'm not out here for "the ambience of the road." Show me the dead presidents! -
If you must lease then why do so from a company like prime with such high fixed costs. When there are so many other ways to get into a truck though a lease or even as an o/o while keeping the fixed costs lower than prime. Why would anyone want to pay something like $160,000 over three years for a truck they will never own.
-
Because it can be very lucrative... many folks don't want to deal with the hassels of ownership as well. You're right... there are many ways into truck ownership. Have you ever considered that just because the route through Prime may not be your cup of tea, the route you choose may not agree with someone else?
BTW... the usual lease/purchase term is 5 years. Lower payments... yes, for a lot longer. -
Ironpony I am sure you have posted before but are you reefer driver? You seem to have a lot of valuable knowledge and are obviously making a profit. I'd like to get more knowledge so I can too be successful if you're willing to coach me along. I can ask my TNT trainer when I get with them next month just like to stay ahead of the curve and plan out my future. I can pm my number to you if that works?
