What is the cheapest home sleep apnea test?

If a company doctor suggests a driver needs this test just say no. There's plenty of trucking jobs out there. Don't be diagnosed with a disease. Just say No then proceed to do number 2 on their bed then walk out.

 

If you suspect you have a sleep disorder, see your own doctor. If your doctor confirms your suspicions, you must inform the doctor that does your dot physical or lie on the physical form. It specifically asks if you have ever been diagnosed with a sleep or breathing disorder.

If you want to keep an eye on your blood oxygen, %SpO2 level, go to Wal-Mart and look for the finger clip on device. It costs about $39-$45 and is as accurate as the ones used in the hospital. If you are pc geeky, look for one on Amazon that can be used with software like SLEEPYHEAD or ResScan, if you already have a machine get this software and at least be a part of your therapy. You'd be surprised how often you do or don't have an apnea event.

 

No test is "DOT approved", no such thing.

The ME can't make a determination whether or not you have it, it isn't his job but it is to have a result of a study which tells him if you have it or not. This means YOU have to have a therapy plan in place by a physician who deals with this as a speciality (not a GP/PCP) and can write the script for you.

I know that's not what some of you want to hear but if you get some bad advice, it can effect you in the long run.

If these companies are self-diagnosing it for you and prescribing stuff for it, it opens them up to a problem legally.

 

The companies have sleep disorder ME on site sometimes. Some of them also have relatives selling the cpap machines to the drivers.

 

I remember about seven years ago I started waking up feeling exhausted, felt like I had been beaten up by a bunch if trolls in my sleep. And I would be talking to someone and the next thing I know I'm dozing off. At the time I did not have health insurance, I dId my research and Cleary I was suffering from sleep apnea. I bought a cpat machine on craigslist. I'll never forget my waking up my first morning after using the cpap. I honestly had not slept that good and felt that refreshed and energized in years. Sure there was a time period where it took some getting used to. I immediately embraced the cpap. And I started asking myself how long did I have sleep apnea before it got to the point where it directly affected my life? Looking back on it I'm guessing it was a out 6 years.

Well a few years later I had great health insurance and went in for a sleep study. Long story short the Dr was shocked at how bad my apnea were.

The numbers they get from these sleep studies do not lie. Sleep apnea is a gateway to many illnesses....

For ducks sake, we know it's real. There is a scam of many unwarranted diagnoses though.

No one is saying Sleep Apnea is not real. The point we're trying to make#is that these companies have no business forcing drivers take this test. There isn't an epidemic of drivers dying in trucks because of sleep apnea.
