Which recruiter if you don't mind me asking. How long have you had your class 1.

If there is any cost to you, or any restrictions or covenants placed on your future employment, as a result of working through the recruiter, tell them to get lost and go on your own.

I got my AZ from Durham College on October 3rd. We had a presentation from The Talent Group early in my course where they spoke about opportunities out west, which really interested me.

No costs to me and also no risk. The recruiter is basically doing the pre-screening of potential employees and setting up interviews. I've heard of people that simply drive out west and hope for the best by knocking on doors. In my corporate career I both hired and have been hired through recruiters, so I figured that might be a safer route at this point in time. We'll see how it goes.

Do you have any previous experience, as I don't have any driving or labour experience and when I talked to recruiter they seemed to think that they wanted at least one of the two. They weren't too keen on me having just corporate/business experience.

I had 23 years experience in a corporate IT environment at a senior management level, but had always planned that should I have the opportunity for a career change, I would go into trucking. I am also an officer in the CIC branch of the primary reserve.

As to the labourer question, as long as you're healthy and can meet the demands of the job, that shouldn't be a question. What we have going for us is maturity, stability and responsibility to carry out any job we're handed. We tend to be more goal focused and no what needs to be done to reach our goals.

Have you spoken with a recruiter and if so, which one and how did you hear about them?

I've spoken to Talent about a position but they didn't seem too keen on me just getting my license and no labour background. Also spoke to Sanjel and they basically thought the same - no driving experience and no labour experience. What have you heard from your recruiter.

I spoke with Talent for their initial contact interview last week and the person I spoke with seemed pretty positive. Lots of work out in Grande Prairie in Field Operations where you are driving the trucks about 20-30% of the time and being a part of a maintenance team responsible for well head setup/maintenance. They're also looking for people to relocate and make a commitment to work out there. PM me if you want to get into a more specific conversation versus the public forums.
