Are you saying the key placement on the newer Cascadia's are worse than the older ones? If you point your right knee 45 degrees to the right, that's where the Western Star key is, right at "normal" knee level. Well out of the way when driving, and the cab is very roomy, but the minute you move to do anything, there's a good chance you'll hit it. I like the horn placement too. One of my favorite trucks to drive.

Not sure why, just don't use the keys that came with it, 1 of the 2 got bent badly and is now broken. The computerized machines using Axxess blanks are what I use.

Other than the horn placement, I like the Cascadia better for what I have to do. Main thing is the engine. The bigger guys didn't like the Stars because of the room between the steering wheel and the seat, a FLD could have the seat mounted farther back. The ride height is about the same on the Cascadia as the 4964 I drove for a few months

I haul water on the oil rigs in Alberta. I usually haul my own shack and stay on the lease, on call 24 hours, but lately a lot of the jobs are shift work and camp and I sit in the cab waiting to work. A lot more waiting than working. Very few of the trucks have sleepers, so the next best thing to help pass the 12 hours away is to fill in the space between the large Western Star bench seat and the drivers seat with whatever will make it level and have a snooze! Gotta love the large cab but all that moving around and I'm sure to hit that key! lol I've never heard of any of the bigger guys complaining about the room.

We had sleepers and they arranged the HVAC behind the driver's seat, like the Cascadia with a sleeper, but it was bulkier. Not as much room behind the seat. I have wondered about the small sleepers that some companies are known to use,

I have wondered how a lightweight Cadscadia is set up, but I have not had an opportunity to check it out.

You must be driving an automatic as my knee whacks the gearshift way before it hits the key on my Star.

As I mentioned, it's not when I'm driving, but when I'm moving around in the cab.

I drive a few of these during the week, I have never ever ever had an issue with the key where it is place on the dash in a WS. Actually I have hit the key on Freightliners which is on the left side, hitting one with a really sharp edge that ripped my pants at the knee and gave me a good gash.

I agree Ridgeline, while driving it's pretty much impossible to hit. That gash sounds pretty painful!

I have whacked my head on the key in the sleeper. I stopped leaving a key in it because of that. Sleeper start is an option where you can start the truck laying in bed.
