The trucks have decreased but haven't stopped, that's what gets me. I said before the hands free law was put into place that if drivers didn't go to that, they would pass a law against it, now that they seem to ignore this law, I guess the next step is an outright ban on any phone use.

It's not holding the phone that's the problem it's the conversation ....... Lots of study's say this. And I'm to tired to post a link.....

We had a driver get a ticket for just holding his phone. Trooper saw him pick up his phone, he wasn't talking on it but since he had it in his hands he got a ticket. Company got fined too, he no longer works for us.
281ric Thanks this. -
cars won't get caught, they aren't the ones being scrutinized. it's the trucks that are always under the microscope. cops are too busy sniffing OUR ARSES to notice what cars are doing. we're the only ones killing people. you can ask tracy morgan -
headsets are going to get us banned from cell phones period. thank the driver talking on his bluetooth last year that a train ran into and sent 12 people to the hospital

I think soon cell phones will be banned completely for Truck Drivers. Will it stop them from talking on them? No, but it'll be another law that we'll have to abide by that 4-wheelers don't have to.
Cranky Yankee and FLATBED Thank this. -
I mean, Florida just passed a "No Texting While Driving" law, yet you see probably 7 out of every 10 4 wheelers with a cell phone in their hand behind the wheel.
I work nights and sitting up high lets me see the glowing light from their phones. They're usually also the ones who are swerving back and forth. If i notice them on their cell phone and they're driving right beside my tractor, using me as a way to keep in their lane while staring down at their phone, I usually blow my air horn. They sometimes freak out and take off.blairandgretchen Thanks this. -
There are just as MANY DISTRACTED DRIVERS with HANDS FREE as with HAND HELD phones , they become involved with the phone call and are blind to what they are doing as far as driving is concerned
BrenYoda883, DrtyDiesel and 281ric Thank this. -
I just hope they don't hit you when they freak. Seems a bit unfair that a 4 wheeler can text and hit a CMV and then FMCSA slaps CMV with points.DrtyDiesel Thanks this.

I know a driver that was pulled over by the DOT for talking on the phone and going 5mph over the limit. The driver was given the choice of getting a ticket for either speeding or talking on the phone. He chose the speeding ticket. I think it depends on the officer as to whether the law is enforced or not.
281ric Thanks this.
