Thanks for your post ncmikey. That's quiet a jump from .34 cents/mile to 46-48 cpm after six months. Is that solo driving rate or team-driving rate? Is Magnum a dry van company? So, if you drove for 10k in a month, you're average 2,500 miles/wk? Think I'll give Magnum a call and get some more information about them since I've never heard of them before.

A bit of advice to the OP - just apply and see what happens. Asking what company is the best is like asking a dog what kind of ice cream will you like because it is all about personal preference and your goals (not those goals that say you want to work for a specific company or do a specific job but those goals that say you want to save for a new car or a down payment on a house or something realistic).

Some drivers work at one company, and claim it is the greatest thing since sliced bread while others at the same company will say it sucks and it is the worst company in the world.

I work for a company where there is a good turnover in the market and they have lost a couple drivers a year. It isn't because of the company, they have great benefits, great pay and are really great about flexibility but they have high demanding customers who do things that means a lot of hard and dangerous work and some drivers think it is the company's fault because they don't get their butts kissed as drivers as if they worked for an OTR company.

So apply to everyone one you can think of or find and see where you land, then get experience to learn what is a good company and what isn't.

Your in Dallas? Melton is a great company to work for, and they have a yard in Sunnyvale, Not sure what they start rookie drivers at, I think it like .33 cpm, but dont quote me on that, Melton has plenty of miles and treat you like a person, not just another number

Yea, I'm in Dallas. The Melton recruiter told me they had a recent pay scale raise, so I'll be starting off at .37 cents/mile. It's really good to know Melton treats you like a person and a not a number. Good luck to your sir and stay safe. I'll let you know who I go with on my next posting. I plan on helping other new recent graduates like myself once I get experience.

Magnum is a reefer company. But some drygoods too. Some hazmat. call Kayla or Emily and they can give you the scoop.
Been averaging 2500-3000 a week. I have been running my butt off. I run for 3 weeks or so then take off for 5 days. Usually have your next load or 2 before you get to the current drop off. I have been enjoying it!

Ridgeline is right though.... I met a Magnum driver at a shipper who had nothing good to say about them. said he didnt get the miles and couldnt make any money. He seemed like maybe HE was the problem... but I dont know. Every other driver I talked to had good things to say.

Just a note about the pay.... after the .34 for a new driver off of training, your moved to 'performance pay' your pay is set but your last 3 months numbers, every quarter. Its based on fuel mileage, miles driven, violations and on time performance. All the numbers are obtainable and not out of reach.

From what ive read from other companies on here... I made a good choice, FOR ME. Everything they have told me they have lived up to. No lies. I have been home on the exact day I asked to be home so far. I already asked for my next two hometimes. 5 days around thanksgiving and the other a week off around new years so I can go visit family in NJ. Already approved.

Good luck on YOUR choice. There are many options out there. Find whats right for YOU. A tool I always use making a decision is a pros and cons list. Seeing the choices and whats important to me on paper helps me make an informed decision.

CDN has terminals in LA and Chicago area. We run western 11 and get into the Dallas area quite frequently. They keep us running and the staff there are amazing. They have done us quite well pay wise and mileage. If we need miles they are happy to oblige. Whatever you do... stay AWAY from Minstar and Skyview Farms.... unless you invest in a jumbo jar of Vaseline.
