If you have a re-manufactured head installed and they do not set the back lash on the gear it can fail that is not the product's fault that is a workmanship fault. I have seen this on the early "E"'s nothing to do with the product, just someone not wanting t remove the fan hub and mount to set the backlash properly. SPEED KILLS.
That is some jerk impressing another Jerk.
When they re manufacture a head they resurface it and that removes the backlash of the gear. and the Idler gear has to be repositioned.
Is there any engine out there that DOESN'T have problems?

What about the new DD15 engines .Anybody has had any bad experience with them.

I agree. Find a 3406e or 6nz CAT. The 6NZ doesn't leak the oil like the 3406e can be prone to do but both good motors. I have the 6NZ with a 13.
I doubt I will ever buy another truck. I'll keep this one on the road before I go down the road of today's junk.rank Thanks this. -
I second that!

there's many c-15 out there. 6nz, mbn, bxs, mxs, nxs, and sdp. 6nz is the best as pre emission engine for power. I'm with mbn and 10 sp. Want to ask haney to flash the ecm and put an old 6nz 500 hp file.
rank Thanks this. -
+1 on the 6NZ for reliability.
Have a bone stock 2001. She is a little lazy, slow to spool up maybe compared to the others I've driven (14.0L DD60, N14, ISX, M11, 3406B) but ZERO repairs. -
The 6NZ is a popular engine and has a good reputation, I was involved with them when they first came out, we did a lot of cams and rocker arms, we did a lot of heads for oil leaks, blow gaskets and kits low, a lot of front covers, rear housings, oil pans cracking before they put in the stiffener plate.
The S60 was more popular at that time, a lot less problems, and a lot better on fuel. There is one number they can not lie about that is the MM3 of fuel used to make the HP advertised, on a Cat it is on the oil cooler, a Detroit, on the valve cover.
Just a thought! -
Both those are perfect for gliders.
