I got to drive my trainers Pete and it was pretty nice. It pulled well and was very smooth driving. The only thing that sucked about it was that it was an auto and backing with an auto takes some finesse. You wont move at idle so you have to give it some fuel and if you aren't used to that it gets a bit...surge-y.. My prostar has been good so far, its one of the newer ones that was a replacement for a buyback that was total garbage. The new Macks look ok, I haven't driven one but they have a bigger cab, more cabinets and an auxillary heater for the sleeper berth. But the one I was looking at in the shop was going back to the dealer with a laundry list of malfunctions/build quality issues...hopefully not a sign of things to come.
I do hope they up the speed limit to 70, I heard it was set at 65 because of Canada but that just seems dumb.

You say you are taking a refresher course so I am assuming you have a cdl and past driving experience just no tanker experience? It should not be hard to get hired on. Just take the refresher and have your tanker/hazmat endorsements before applying. Superior will train you if you get on. Call the High Point terminal and talk to the terminal manager. He can tell you if they are hiring drivers at that terminal.

Rob can chime in. He runs out of that terminal so he would know for sure.

Yeah call Mac. The sign is out front that says now accepting applications for OTR so they must be looking for drivers.

Heck, I'd be happy with 68mph. 70 would be better though. As far as Canada goes, I have not seen it yet and don't plan on it. If they give me a load up there I am turning it down. Don't care anything about making a "run for the border".

Yeah, I have seen the inside of the Pete's. Heck of a lot nicer than the Macks and more room. I have heard mixed reviews on the autos but I would welcome it as much as I get caught in Atlanta traffic.

Hopefully so. The one I'm in has more power than the Prostar. Only has 20k on it though, so we'll see what happens in another 100. It did take some getting used to as it isn't as comfortable as the Prostar, but I like it.

Whats not as comfortable? I have heard they have less room and storage inside but have never been up inside one.

There just isn't quite as much adjustment range in the seat and steering wheel. I can get everything adjusted almost perfect, but just not quite.

I worked for a company that had a 68 mph max. Everytime I took a Canadian load I had to stop by the shop. They would plug in a computer and dial it back to 65 mph max and check your belts and fluids while they were at it. It took about 5 minutes.

Got a new Mack. I have one question for whoever ordered these trucks, where was your head when it came to storage space??? Do you really think two little tiny cabinets is enough storage space? Geez...

Guess I will get a luggage rack and strap it to the catwalk...
